It's been about 10 years since I went and at the time I thought it was pretty impressive -- particularly some of the walk through "haunted houses", but many friends who used to go annually have now stopped saying it has just become too crowded. That's the comment on that other thread about "tourist rip-off" too.

Went two years ago and were so, so disappointed. It was so croweded they were turning people away (yes at a theme park). In the haunted house they were sending people through so quickly that we never were surprized one time by a hiding person because we saw everthing with the people in front of us. NOT worth it!

The last time i went was in 1998. It was a Thurs night and hardly any crowds, was the same day john glenn went up into space again, i still remember that day. I seem to think it was really fun to explore the park at night, they had alot of parades at different times of the night, the streets were fogged up w/ all sorts of characters bumping into you. The haunted houses were pretty cool not to mention you could still ride the regular rides at the park. Maybe alot has changed since then but If your going to go, try going in the middle of the week and before halloween.

SHL,
I replied to Biggest tourist ripoffs and I used Halloween Horror nights as my experience. I wont write all the same things over again but I will try and add a few things. I agree with what Marci wrote. They put so many people through the haunted houses at one time. They are pretty lite up and therefore not very scarey.
The one thing that is totally awesome is to just walk around the park and look at the fabulous costumes. The waiters are all dressed up in the restaurants and they do crazy things. Like I wrote on the other thread we couldnt ride the rides as the lines were hours long. It was not worth it. The atmosphere is great, they have the whole smog thing going on and many monsters running around. They just let too many people in. They say they limit tickets, in fact they are hard to obtain especially on the weekends. Believe it or not there are ticket scalpers waiting ouside the gate trying to buy tickets . I could have sold mine for double what they cost me and I probably should have. Maybe going during the week is the answer.

I experienced HHN last year for the first time and had no regrets. Indeed, impressive. I'm sure the main factor in my positive experience was the Express Pass purchase. For an additional 21.00 dollars,(some nights are 35.00) you'll gain front of the line access(one per attraction)and save yourself a 90-120 minute wait in some cases. This is the first year both Universal and IOA will be open to the event to help alleviate the overcrowding issue. 7 Haunted Houses have been added. If you already have day admission to one of the parks(or both) and it was purchased directly with Universal, you can puchase HHN admission for just 32.75 +tx as opposed to 58.00 dollars. Don't go on the 16th or 24th. Don't go at all without express passes. It was scary enough, I wouldn't recommend to anyone under 11 or so.

I would never go, just not my thing. But teens...well that's a different story. My teens LOVE HHH, and they're willing to travel two hours each way every year to experience it...sounds like it's NOT for young children, with live characters at every bend.

We went on a weekend night 2 years ago and I will never go again. The crowds were insane. Wait times for the haunted houses were over 3 hours. We saw 2 things in 5 hours. We decided it wasn't worth it and went to leave. On the way out we went to guest services to try to get money back and there was a line for that. We waited and were given a pass to come back to the parks whenever we wanted. I have never been in a park that was so crowded, and as I said we will never go back.

My husband and I went last year. We loved it. It was very crowded and we had to wait in long lines, but we thought it was well worth it. Just loved the haunted houses! The streets were full of fog, the monsters were quite good and they were everywhere. By the way, we are definitely not teens either.
