Can anyone recommend and share experience of a daytime Walking/Bus tour of Harlem? I will visit during Thanksgiving week.

I don't know but we have a Fodorite local who lives in the area. Hopefully she'll find this and make a suggestion.

santamonica recently was there and there should be two threads - one asking questions and the other his trip report.

Make sure to check out St. John the Divine. travelbuff always invites us to their peace concert on NYEve. One day I'll make it there at that time. It's worth seeing at any time of the year -

They also offer tours. I want to do the vertical tour!

Here's santy's thread - planning and trip report all in one

He's one of our funniest - and most unique - posters
If you go to Argentina, be sure to read his trip report!

starrs: thanks for the note on santy. I am taking an expedition to Antarctica next December and plan on spending a few days in Buenos Aires on the front end.

He (and his sons) played beach volleyball with the girl from Ipanema.

santy's The Man!

(and one of the nicest and funniest Fodorites ever)

I'll bet travelbuff will find this thread soon and give you more info on Harlem.

Hi, I live at the top end of Harlem, and to be really honest, this area is mostly residential, and not alot to "see", other than historic sites, "this the corner where....". The Schomberg Center is a public library and there are usually exhibits that are interesting.

There are a few historic homes dating back to very early American, like the Morris-Jumel on 163rd and Edgemont, off St. Nicholas and absolutely worth a visit.

If you really want to see some of the area, I would suggest taking one of the bus tours, you can see more in a limited amount of time with a tour guide.

Any specific questions, let me know.

I put together my own walking tour of Harlem highlights based on research and suggestions, and enjoyed my result. You'll find a link to it here:
