Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel???
Someone recommended this place to us for our honeymoon this coming January. Can someone tell me more about this place? Anybody, who stayed here before? We're almost close to a decision with Kapalua Bay Hotel, however, should I consider the Prince over this property??? Please advice...

The Hapuna is on the big island and is great. My husband and I have been to the big island twice in the last 3 years and have stayed there each time. As a matter of fact, we probably would not stay anywhere else while on that island. They have the best infinity pool that looks out on the beach there which is kind of like a cove. While we are there, people always comment on how they keep coming back there year after year. If you go and they are not full, they might upgrade you to a better room. We have been upgraded to an oceanfront room both times. If you go, have a great time.

My husband and I stayed at the Hapuna Prince Hotel for our 15th wedding anniversary. We were also moved up to an ocean front room. The rooms are beautiful and the bathrooms are quite large. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We would love to return.

You'll be very happy with the Hapuna. Breathtaking views of the neighboring islands and the beach is one of the best on the BI. One other option on the BI would be the Fairmont if it fits your budget, lots of sea turtles along the shore. You can't go wrong with either.

Be advised that the Kapalua Bay hotel is on Maui, the Hapuna Prince is on the Big Island. Although I've never been to Kapalua Bay Hotel, I've been to Maui and the Big Island and I would say the first decision would be which island, then decide which hotel as the differences between islands is noteable. Generally speaking, the Kapalua area has more of a chance of rain in the winter months. Although it all is paradise, islands have different "flavors." The decision of "which island" is discussed at length on this forum.
As for the Hapuna, I stayed there in May and it was a quiet, understated paradise. The staff was friendly, helpful and always there when you needed them and in the background if you didn't. The Hapuna Beach is one of the best beaches in Hawaii and was voted one of the best in the U.S. by Conde Nast. It's got great golf if you're into that and complete signing privleges next door at the Mauna Kea (big tennis also) so it's like 2 resorts in one. Also of note is the shoreline foot trail (not paved, a little challenging) that starts at the Hapuna and goes 2 miles north. It was one of the best trail runs I've ever had. As stated above, the pool is very nice, not huge, but plenty of room for everybody and lunches poolside were excellent. I would stay here again in an instant.

As for places to see and things to do, the big island has an endless amount of both. And keep in mind there is a reason it's called the big island...it's BIG (compared to all the rest). Check out "Big Island Revealed" at www.wizardpub.com and you'll see there's a whole lot more to do on the big island than just the Volcano (which could take up 2 days itself). We were there 4 days and I left frustrated that we missed so much. Aside from Kona, there is not much night life. And I've heard for a large town, Hilo (the other side of the island) is very quiet at night. The locals seem to be proud of the relaxed and simple pace here. I found the "quietness" similar to Kauai. Kona is a 30-45 minute drive from the Hapuna. Some of the other west coast hotels are a little closer but not by much. You should be able to satisfy your nightlife needs at Kona...plenty of bars, restaurants etc.
