Yes safe area, but not convenient if you plan on a lot of French Quarter activities??? A lot of in transit time if you have a short stay.

I wasn't aware they were building one there. But looking at the map that seems a bit far down St. Charles if you're thinking of doing a lot of French Quarter stuff. But other than that it's in a good area.

BTW: I was just messing around online and they are already showing sold out for the main part of the 2005 Mardi Gras season. Maybe they just have it blocked of so you have to call to book a room.

How new is the hotel?

My husband and I always stay at the Hampton on St. Charles when we're in New Orleans but unless they are building a new one somewhere, this hotel is not new. It is nice though and personally I prefer the Garden District to the French Quarter. But, we don't go to New Orleans to see the French Quarter. The Hampton has free parking, a small lap pool, and free continental breakfast. They also have a parrot who meows when you say "Here kitty kitty" to him!
