HAILING A CAB IN NY AT XMAS/HOW
What is the fastest way to grab a taxi drivers attention in NY prior to Christmas when you are flagging them down...short of showing my legs. LOL What is the best way to do it..STAND on CURB?? Stand on a CORNER..mid-block?? Any New yorkers out there offer some tips pleaseA? Thanks! I'm going to need one when the Radio City Music Hall Rockettes show lets out and I know it won't be easy and in THAT cold weather..any tips please? email me if you want.

First of all, walk a block from 6th Ave to 5th or 7th so you won't have to compete with everyone else.
Second, all cabs have their number on the roof. If it's lighted, they are available, if it's dark, they already have a fare. If you've had trouble in the past, my guess is that you've been flagging down full cabs.
The only time it is really tough to get a cab is between 4 and 6 PM and on rainy days. I would imagine that your show will be letting out at a different time. Hopefully the weather will cooperate.

More on cab roof lights. The number, in themiddle, when lit means the cab is abvailable. However, to both sides of the center number is an OFF DUTY sign, which, when lit, means the cab isnot going to pick you up. From a distance, you may get your hopes up when you see a light, but get disappointed when it gets closer.
My hailing technique is to walk onto the street with one arm straight up in the air.
The Hilton is just up the street from RCMH, and you might want to walk up there and get a cab that pulls into the driveway to drop off another passenger.
