Does anyone have any personal experience with guided horseback rides in the Phoenix area? We are interested in 2 hour or so ride. I've looked at several different websites and there are some interesting options, eg: sunset ride, breakfast ride, ride and barbecue, ride to the T-Bone steakhouse. We are looking for great scenery, interesting & fun guides, a meal is not necessary, but could be an option.
Any advice (best area or time of day) or recommendations will be appreciated. This will be in early April.

Trip Ideas
my wife did a ride last fall at the Papago stables. You ride in Papago Park which borders Phoenix, Tempe and Scottsdale. She enjoyed it and plans to go again soon.
There is also riding in South Mountain and in areas on the outskirts of Phoenix. Depending on your time, I would think riding in Cave Creek, Superstition Mountains or Saguaro Lake areas would be more interesting.
Thanks, bigtyke. Why do you think those areas would be more interesting? The scenery? The history?
Windwalker Expeditions out of Cave Creek looks interesting, as does OK Corral in the Superstition mountains. Does anyone have any experience with these two?
better scenery
How about advice on a very easy one hour ride for a family with a 5 year old? There are very few stables allowing a 5 year old on a horse= we've narrowed it down to Macdonalds or Ponderosa. Any comments on either of those? I realize it is going to be a slow walk!
It is already in the mid 80's there, so I would suggest a morning ride to avoid the heat of the day. Sunset might be nice too.

donnasand - I would do the Papago Stables if they allow 5 yr olds
We're just back from Scottsdale, so I thought I would update this thread for anyone searching for a trail ride in the future.
, but the scenery was very nice.
Thanks to bigtyke's suggestion, we chose the Superstition Mountains and O.K. Corral in Apache Junction. We really enjoyed the ride. The scenery was great, the desert wildflowers and some cacti were in bloom. The guide was very interesting, explaining the desert vegetation and the history of the area, eg: the Lost Dutchman mine and gold mining there in general. I would highly recommend this stable. Thanks, bigtyke, for the suggestion.
We continued on the Apache Trail to Canyon Lake, where we had an afternoon picnic. There were hundreds of Harley riders in town for AZ Bike week (they seemed to be meeting up at Tortilla Flat), so our picnic lunch was not very peaceful
