Greek itinerary & island hopping
I'm visiting Greece for the first time on May 26 after traveling thru Europe for 5 weeks. It's the last week of my european adventure before returning to australia.
I'm staying in athens 3 nights, flying to santorini & staying 3 nights & then ferrying it to Nexos for 2 nights.
Questions:
Is it warm enough to swim in sea?
Is 3 nights too much or not enough. I'm a beach person, 50+ & traveling alone.
Any advice appreciated...Lucy

I have spent 4 weeks in greece during the months of September and October so I am not much help for your May adventure.

I was in Mykonos and Santorini the last week of April a few years ago. Santorini it was barely warm enough to lay on the beach- but May would probably be okay. I did swim one day on Mykonos but it was pretty chilly! I think by end of May it would be pretty warm though. You will love Greece- it is one of my favorite places. We did three nights on Santorini or maybe it was two- either way it was plenty- especially if you are travelling alone. Santorini is very small and 2 or 3 days is plenty of time to explore the towns and to get some beach time in. Same thing for Athens- just enough time to explore the basics. I think your itinerary sounds great.

I followed your itinerary nearly 10 years ago when I was 20 years old and spent my summer backpacking through Europe. I believe I hit Santorini around mid-May, and stayed for 5 nights (almost spent the whole summer there, but that's another story). The water was great...clear and warm. Naxos was more of the same, but a very different feel.
I think 3 nights in Santorini and 2 in Naxos would be perfect. I adored Greece...never wanted to leave. Rent a moped and cruise the island. Check out the red and black sand beaches. Watch the sunset in Oia, shop in Thira. Have a great trip and thanks for bringing back old memories.
