Great Smokies in March?
Hoping to head to the the Great Smokies via RV from Michigan end of March early April. Anyone been there at that time of year? Any recommendations as to whether we go in through N. Carolina or Tennessee? A recommendation of a State or Nat'l campground with hookups?

Coming from MI, I would imagine you would want to enter from Gatlinburg , TN. There are great RV parks on either side of the park. Inside the park are more rustic sites (no full hookup). There is more to do in Gatlinburg than there is in Cherokee, all though Cherokee is a must see. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask!

There are beautiful campgrounds along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Also, if you are a AAA member, request their campground guide for those states. I received mine in the mail last week - along with great maps. You can request a total of 12 maps /guides and I've got a new supply of planning materials for a road trip to PA, the Keys and Italy!

The campsites inside the park do not have water or electricity hookups. Most do have dump stations. Check out www.nps.gov/grfsm/gsmsite/campingand other.html. This lists opening dates, number of sites available and cost.
The gateway communities are Gatlinburg, TN. Nearby towns include Pigeon Forge (Dollywood) and Townsend which bills itself the quiet side of the Smokies. In the south in North Carolina is Cherokee (Indian village, gambling) There are three visitor centers. The one at Sugarlands just outside Gatlinburg is larger. The one near Cherokee, Oconoluftee has the start/finish of the Blue Ridge Parkway near it. The third is along the motor route in Cades Cove.
The annual wildflower pilgrimage is April 25-May 1. Check out their website www.wildflowerpilgrimage.com for locations to check out.
Weather should be cool at night, but can't rule out unexpected snow either.
