Grandkids in March

Grandsons 5 & 8 have spring break the last week of March. Too cold to tour DC? Any other destinations other than Florida?

Personally, I think DC is better too cold than too hot. We've been three times and every time it was BOILING. I hate that!

I think DC would be great. Fla is great in March too, but you have lots of 2-3 week college and private school vacations in March, so it may be more crowded. I think they would love DC - if you get really cold days, you have all those museums to occupy that age like the space musuem - which they'd probably love - and going to the top of the monument (elevator), - depends on what is too cold for you, I don't remember my kids ever complaining about the cold at that age - kids usually don't care as much as they have their hats and mittens (which if they're like mine they'll probably lose, so bring extra!). I'm sure they'd also like swimming in FLA, so I think it mostly depends on you and what you feel like doing as a grandmother - watching them swim and do all that summer stuff 24/7 (I found it hard to get my kids to do much else at that age if we were near a beach or pool) or actually doing museums, monuments, etc with them. You are great to do something with them so choose what you will be happy doing also.

I don't know your grand kids but I waited until my kids were a little older than 5 to go to DC. I took them when they were 10 and 12 and they enjoyed the sites very much at that age.

How about an Old West cowboy type vacation combined with baseball spring training in Arizona? Rancho del los Caballeros in Wickenburg northwest of Phoenix is all inclusive ranch with horseback riding and has lots of activities kids love plus the town is darling.

Go to southern Arizona- Tuscon is artsy and has the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum, funky little Bisbee, tacky touristy Tombstone, & Kartchner Caverns are nearby.

Stay at one of the Pointe Hilton resorts (www.pointehilton.com) in the Phoenix area and catch some spring training games and hike Pinnacle Peak and drive the Apache Trail.

Been to DC over 4th of July weekend...wil NEVER go there during summer again. I am from Vegas, and I could not handle the weather/humidity. Next time we will go during the spring or fall. So I think March would be a great time to go.

The last week of March would be a great time to visit DC. The cherry blossoms might start to bloom around then (depends on winter weather).

Also visit the zoo, see the new panda, and see the other animals when they are active, unlike in the summer when they are sweltering in their fur coats.

If you want a beach trip, I'd go as far south as possible. Water temps in NC will be too cold for swimming.
