Grand Wailea and Four Seasons. What's the difference?

My wife and I are headed to Maui in early March. We have stayed previously at the Ritz in Kapalua, and enjoyed it. We would like to stay in Wailea this time. Any recommendations on Four Seasons vs. Grand Wailea? Are these two properties connected in any way? We are frequent Ritz Carlton guests and would like to find that "Ritz-like" service and quality combined with a fun atmosphere. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I used to live in Kapalua. I think that the Ritz is a lovely property and it's location is close to Lahaina for dinner which is a plus. I've stayed at the Four Seasons in Wailea many times too and I think that the service there is excellent. It also has the advantage of feeling a bit more intimate than the Ritz, because it is a bit smaller. The Grand Wailea is fun to go for the day for an elaborate spa treatment, but the rooms aren't as nice as the Four Seasons in my opinion. Enjoy and Aloha!

JT- Can you tell me if you were at the Ritz in March? I currently have two reservations, one at the Ritz and one at the Four Seasons. I'm concerned that it will be rainy at the Ritz and ruin my vacation. I prefer to stay the Ritz but if it rains all the time, then I'll stay at the Four Seasons. Any insight on this? Thanks!

Your chances of getting rain are greater in Kapalua than in Wailea. If you like the Ritz, then I'd suggest the Four Seasons. The same type of feel as the Ritz.

Agree with kolohegirl. Wailea has much better weather; 4 Seasons is fantastic/understated. The variety of restaurants is wonderful. You can always walk to the Grand Wailea. It is great for kids, with water slides and swings, etc. and beautiful grounds. There are also many good restaurants in the area that you can take a cab to.

Hey pkmw,

The others are right on the money. We loved the Ritz, except for the weather. The pool is absolutely beautiful, but the wind, clouds, and more frequent rain are frustrating. Especially when you pay what you pay to enjoy these properties.
