Grand Teton Raft Trip ?

We're a family of 4 (2 boys 11 & 15). How rough are the white water trips down the Snake River? The boys have been on float trips and canoes/kyaks, but nothing more adventuresome than that. If we opt for a float trip, which company(ies) offer the best trips and should we make advance reservations for mid-July? As always, thanks for your help!

Bubba2: Yep, I sure did. I did find lots of info, but not exactly what I'm looking for. In fact, a poster asked the question about white water vs. float trips with kids about the same age back in Feb. and never did get that particular question anwered. I'm hopeful that I'll get some more up-to-date info. Thanks for the suggestion.

I know they operate one out of Signal Mountain Lodge, but unfortunately I can't give you any specifics on what all they see. They also offer other types of boat rentals if you are so inclined. Might be a nice adventure for young boys to be able to wander a bit more than a structured trip. I would give them a call for more detail.

Well it's been many years since we did this trip but at the time my kids were 6 and 10. We did both whitewater and float trip. I loved the float trip, serene, lots of wildlife and unmatched scenery but the kids were a little bored, they loved the whitewater trip. The WW trip is certainly do-able for your boys and they should love it.
The WW trip was pretty wild but for only a short stretch. Most of the trip was easy going. I know water levels determine just how rough it can be and you won't know that until you get there.

We took the float trip out of Jackson Lake lodge and found it very enjoyable. You start off with a steak dinner on the banks of the Snake River and then board. There are no rapids at all on the float trips. There was an eight year old on the one we took. It might be too tame for your 15yr old But we had a lot of fun

The float trips above Jackson near Jackson Lake Lodge are very mellow, but boring to my boys ages 11 & 16. They prefer the whitewater raft trips, where you are bussed down below Jackson. How rough the trip always depends on the amount of run off at the time. Everyone wears a life preserver. You can take the trips where everyone helps paddle, or the ones that the guide paddles and steers. Try Mad River Boat Trips. Or try a google search on whitewater trips jackson hole wyoming.
