Grand Canyon, Sedona: flying into and out of Las Vegas
I've posted before but due to airfare prices we have to fly round trip to Las Vegas rather than Phoenix. Will stay in LV on arrival night then two days at GC then would still like to see Sedona. Would like to stop somewhere else on the way back to LV. Will be there March 23 (evening) til March 30 (late afternoon). Any ideas for itinerary? Thanks!

If you just want a short stop on the way back, you can go to Hoover Dam, take the dam tour. Or take a boat ride on lake Meade, If you have a little longer, drive around lake Meade to the entrance to Valley of Fire, hike into Mouse's tank, check out the CCC cabins, petroglyphs.

How late are you flying into McCarran? Don't feel you "must" stay in LV. Staying at the Fiesta in Henderson or the Hacienda out near Hoover Dam are good cheap options which get you closer to your Arizona destinations for the next day.
There are helicopter flights taking off from the little hill next to the Hacienda parking lot. They fly over Hoover Dam and Lake Meade.

Thanks! Shortly after posting this I found ONE flight out of PHX that was cheaper than the LV flights. Much more convenient with our Sedona stop, and less driving. So back to Plan A travelling out of Phoenix. Will arrive late evening in Phoenix (10pm). On return we will leave Sedona and spend afternoon somewhere near Phoenix and fly home the next afternoon.

Landing in Phoenix doesn't shorten your driving time vs. Vegas by THAT much, but it does change the scenery! I would recommend that you enter the Grand Canyon from the eastern border, which allows you some really beautiful views of the painted desert. Stop at the little turn-outs where the Native Americans sell their wares, there are some really gorgeous views! I was just at the GC a few months ago and it was really beautiful, enjoy!

Vivid01, the driving time will be easier going home since we will be in Sedona then to Phoenix. Having never been to GC before, is it obvious how to enter GC from the eastern border? I'm definitely interested in the Native American wares and the views.
thanks!

Julie- it was recommended to us here on Fodor's by Utahtea, to enter the GC from the south entrance. Then leave thru the eastern entrance, that way you get the great vistas heading towards the Painted Desert. You could then have lunch at the Cameron Trading Post and take in The Wupatki ruin and Sunset Crater on your way to Sedona.
Plus, with an afternoon flight, no need to spend the night in Phoenix.

Thanks, MichelleY. Good idea to come in to GC via south and exit through east. I did look on a map and now that makes sense.
We are considering staying in PHX for our last afternoon/night for a change of pace - maybe see a bit of the city or something close to the city. Not sure what we would have time for in one afternoon.
