I am looking for motel/hotel recommendations for the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. We will be traveling down from Bryce Canyon or Zion on Sunday, 10/4/15, and apparently I have waited too long to get into the lodge in the park. We plan to drive the North Rim, East Rim over the bridge, and South Rim, before heading home to Florida. Feel free to add recomendations for Bryce and Zion; maybe a good point between the two. We will be leaving this coming Saturday, 9/19, and I have the first two-thirds of the trip to Mesa Verde, Arches and SLC covered. I would appreciate any recommendations you can offer.

Keep trying, for a cancellation in the North Rim. In the mean time look for lodging in Kanab, an hour or so north where there are plenty of places, or Jacob's Lake a bit closer, but I'm not sure what's there.

Thanks so much @ emalloy and Michelle Y! I made Zion and Bryce bookings tonight. NRGC is all that's left. Boy, this trip is costing a small fortune for lodging...lol!

At Zion look into the La Quinta in Springdale. The location is great and it's likely less expensive than other options.

1) Make a reservation at Jacob Lake as a backup plan now. They don't have much available so do that first thing.

2) Call the North Rim every day, even twice a day to see if there are any cancellations. You might have better luck if you are flexible with your dates (+/- one day from 10/4). Don't get your hopes up though, they are booked solid for the whole month of October. South Rim you can always expect last-minute cancellations but it is not as common at the North Rim but it doesn't hurt to try.

Jacob Lake has a motel, but it is just a motel. They have a good restaurant. Inspect their authentic Navajo rugs that hang on the wall.

Near NRGC border is Kaibab Lodge set in the forest. Very refreshing. http://kaibablodge.com/

Fredonia has motels, but I prefer Kanab lodges. This is my current list:

Parry is where movie stars stayed during the era of Westerns. Their names are above the room they stayed. Ronnie Reagen is one of those room -- # 125 to be exact.

The hotel and cabins at Jacob Lake are fine--not luxurious but fine. I have stayed there and liked it. In Kanab, I like the Quail Park Lodge. Realize that you are heading to southern Utah over the state school holiday (Thursday-Sunday) so you will have a hard time finding lodging at this point in Zion etc. You may have to stay in St. George. Seriously--the entire Wasatch Front heads south!

Stop at Cliff Dwellers for a meal between the two rims.

IF you dine at Cliff Dwellers, inspect their rock wall where you will find large blocks of petrified wood embedded into that wall. Petrified wood was probably found at Lee's Ferry northwest of Lee's Overlook in the colorful Chinle formation.

PS. They rent boats that you can navigate the Colorado River from Lee's Ferry. Problem - you have to tow it there.

I agree with RVvagabond on NR lodging. Kaibab Lodge is much closer to the rim than Jacob Lake. Particularly if you stay for sunset at the rim, I would be much more comfortable driving back to Kaibab than to Jacob Lake (because of the potential of large wildlife on the road).
