I will be at the Grand Canyon at the end of June/early July and have reservations at both Maswik & Yavapai Lodges.
Maswik is substantially cheaper than Yavapai, perhaps due to larger room & A/C. On the other hand, Maswik is closer to Bright Angel (rim/trailhead). That's about all I know about the differences.
Any input on whether Maswik or Yavapai would be better for 4 people in a 2 queen room? Any key pro's or con's for either hotel?
Grand Canyon - Maswik vs Yavapai, late June

I asked almost exactly this question last year (went in October), and the answers were pretty uniformly that Maswik was the better choice. (for somne reason I can't find the thread, if I dig it up I'll post a link). Not only is it closer to the trailhead, its close enough to walk to all the dining options on the Rim. So you don't have to shuttle, or park a car if you want to have dinner at El Tovar or Bright Angel's Arizona room.
we stayed at Maswik in a room with a king and AC in one of the newer buildings and were very happy with it.
Here it is:

Thanks china_cat - very helpful.
The rooms I have at Maswik are the smaller, non a/c South rooms.
I'll keep watching/calling to see if I can get Maswik N, or better yet one of the rim Lodges.
For four people in late June, I would choose a larger room at Yavapai (Yavapai East, I think) over the smaller one at Maswik. You will appreciate the extra space and the air conditioning.
As for proximity to the rim, it is true that Maswik is closer to the Bright Angel trailhead. But Yavapai is not significantly farther from the rim itself than Maswik, and the walk is much more scenic, along a trail through the woods. You end up at a nice quiet spot on the rim, about halfway to Yavapai Point from the Main hotel area (Bright Angel and El Tovar), and it's a better spot form which to see the sunrise and sunset if you wish.
Yes, you may have to shuttle or drive if you want to have dinner at El Tovar or the Arizona Room. but it is also a nice walk---just be sure and take a flashlight for the walk back..
