Graduate gift idea that is typically Boston?
Two high school graduates I know will be going to college in Boston.I would like to get them something they can use and would appreciate that is typically Boston.
I thought of a T pass, but they are only available for a month, maybe gift certificates to a typical college hangout,???
I would love to hear any of your suggestions that would be unique - no clock radios, or dorm stuff.
One is going to Brandeis, the other BU.

Depends on their interests. A membership to Museum of Fine Arts (some of the colleges get their students in "free", need to check. Get travel guides to Boston with T maps, etc. At most colleges the students can get low cost T passes for the semester.
gift certificates to restaurants in the area.
Good outdoor wear for the inclement weather they will face during winter.

Why don't you get them a gift certficate to the Prudential Center? There's restaurants (Legal Seafood, California Pizza Kitchen, Dick's Last Resort)and all kinds of stores.
Here's a link and you can buy them on Yahoo.

Don't get them an MFA pass - that will almost certainly be included in their tuition.
I would suggest the Time Out Guide to Boston as an excellent resource. Its also the guide most likely to be of interest to students. A map easy or equivalent plastic folding map of central boston would also probably be useful.
THis is very thoughtful of you, and am sure will be appreciated.

While I'm not at college in Boston, I do have a couple of ideas that any student would love. Maybe you could buy a laundry bag with the school logo on it and wrap a roll of quarters really silly/fancy. A really cool guide book, like TimeOut, isn't a bad idea, but their school might already be giving them guidebooks. Ours did. Zagats Boston guide has a list of places "favored by 20s crowd." Maybe a gift certificate for one of those. You will be absolutely loved and remembered for the quarters--no one ever believes how much you need them before they get to school. The one thing I wanted to buy for myself last time I was in Boston but didn't were the stuffed animal lobsters. Absolutely hilarious and some of them even wore little Boston bibs!
