I am looking to visit san Francisco in the summer with my wife and 2 daughters aged 5 and 7. We often go to the gulf coast and are spoilt for choice for gorgeous condos. can anyone recommend high quality accomodation in San Francisco. My dream would be somewhere with a view. I would not rule out a nice suite in a hotel if the hotel had a swimming pool.
We may then go to Los Angeles and so if anyone had any similar advice for properties near to disney I would be grateful. THANK YOU.

Tony- There is a question I just sent up to the top tonite- Trip to California- is the title and the 2nd respondant, I believe, recommended a very nice hotel in San Francisco. As far as Disneyland in Anaheim goes, for me, the ultimate is to stay at the Disneyland hotel. You can take the monorail back and forth. They have now opened up a second hotel. Can't remember the name. I am an AAA (auto club) member and have my California book here with all phone numbers and descriptions of hotels. E mail me if I can be of any more help.

Thank you for responding to my message about where to stay in San francisco. Having suffered a fairly low grade holiday in Antigua last year and having had my wife threaten never to go away with me again I want to stay in a very nice hotel where my kids (2 girls 5 and 7) will be welcome. in a way therefore cost isnt too importnat although I have never been one to throw money away needlessly. It would be lovely if the hotel had a leisure club and it must have connectin rooms for the kids. If you have any suggestions i would be very grateful. Also if you know of any quality self catering accomodation further afield i would appreciate being told. Actually, he IS trying to do some research. That is why he is at this site. And, it is certainly not at all necessary to spend $1000 per night for heaven's sake to get a lovely room or suite. Tony, check on the Fodor's site and choose a few that sound good to you then re-post your question with the specific name of the hotel in the title. That way you will be sure to get good first hand information and will be in the price range you desire. On the other hand, if money truly is no option, you will do nicely with any of the Fodor's choices in the most expensive catagory. Have a nice trip!

I have stayed at the Fairmont over the years, and while it does not have a pool, to the best of my recollection, it does have some of the most spacious suites anywhere. If you are a member of the President's Club (Fairmont's "frequent flyer" program), you can usually get upgraded for not too much money. The suites are enormous and have large balconies with wrought iron railings and potted palms overlooking the city. Each suite has a theme (Spanish, French, etc), which is slightly kitschzy, but the whole place is a period piece from a different era in San Francisco history. Make sure to request a suite in the old building which has very high ceilings and room proportions again from another age. There is a health club in the hotel, as well as numerous bars and restaurants. There is also a great glass elevator that is fun to ride and offers a breathtaking view. The location atop Nob Hill is ideal.
