Does anyone have suggestions for good Thai food in Vegas? We will be staying just off of midstrip and will have cars. Not too concerned about price. Authentic food is most important. We will be celebrating a birthday, and will be a rather large group of 10 or more.

Guess we'll try it. Thanks! I did check out the menu and it has some of our Thai friends' favorite dishes. I just hope they are cooked to satisfaction, albeit "westernized" to some degree.

I don't think you will find better in Vegas so if not to your friends liking then suggest different cuisine style for future meals

Don't expect much Westernization at Lotus of Siam -- either in ingredients or spiciness. You will be asked how spicy each dish should be made, on a scale from 1 (mild) to 10. A choice of "3" would be considered spicy at most restaurants in the U.S.; "5" is hot, and I'd rather not contemplate what 10 might be like.

Also, don't be put off by the surroundings. Lotus of Siam is located in an old shopping center that might kindly be described as modest. Go anyway -- it's worth it.

We liked the Thai food at Kung Fu-3505 S. Valley View Blvd.
We ate there 3 nights. It was very busy on 2 of the 3 nights, and there was a long wait for those without reservations.

If you plan to go to Lotus of Siam, I would definitely make reservations for such a large group. Every time I have gone, the place has been packed and even with reservations for 2 we have had to wait a little bit for our table.

Isn't Lotus of Siam the place that many chefs consider the best Thai in the US? I think I saw it featured on Top Chef...

@NewbE: That's right, LoS has that good of a reputation. It's definitely the best Thai restaurant in a town without a sizable Thai ex-pat population, and it rivals the best Thai eateries in Los Angeles (which does have a Thai Town in the East Hollywood neighborhood). The chef (Saipin Chutima) tied for a James Beard award in 2011, which says a lot about her incredible skills.

The food isn't westernized or dumbed-down, just terrific. It's also the worst-kept secret in the Vegas restaurant scene, and savvy diners flock to the place:

Sounds like LoS is a MUST DO for our group. Thanks one and all. And my Thai friends will be very happy that the food isn't really a "westernized" version!! We are in Vegas 3-4 nights so might have time to try the other one as well. Thank you ShelleyK for Kung Fu suggestion.

I liked China Mama for xlb and scallion beef rolls….but it has been a while..asian food is great in LV; I would venture in that arena and not spend lots of $$ on the strip..

Another option for your 2nd Thai restaurant is Chada Thai & Wine. The former sommelier at Lotus of Siam opened the restaurant last year to rave reviews and has received kudos from diners who are regulars at Lotus of Siam. http://chadavegas.com/

Chada looks good! I like their large selection of red wines, especially Italian wines.
