Good Italian in the Lower East Side?

Hello, I am visiting New York City in August for a surprise trip with my girlfriend. We are staying in the Lower East Side area. Does anyone have suggestions for a good Italian restaurant to bring her, I want it to be impressive since it is her birthday.

Taormina's in Little Italy is a great restaurant. It is not one of the typical ones in Little Italy. It is very nice dining. Owned by a guy named Lou.

Try Aroma kitchen and Winebar ( http://tastespace.com/AromaKitchenand... ), it's an awesome Italian place right in the LES. Worth it if you want a great wine selection etc. Ive been there a couple times and the service is always been great. I tried this restaurant after I found it on TasteSpace.com where it let me search by specific type of dish, neighborhood, feature, ambience, or by specific occasion (i.e. in your case, a romantic evening with your girlfriend) in the "take me out" section.

Good luck w/ the search. Hope your lady enjoys and have a good trip.

There are many fine Italian restaurants on the LES, where we live.

Cacio e Pepe-genuine romano cooking with the the signature dish cacio e pepe served in a hollowed out wheel of pecorino

Perbacco-small dishes each better than the other, noisy, crowded

I Coppi-the most elegant of all those lisred with garden, genuine Tuscan cooking and they mmake their own bread without salt.

Luzzo's-brick oven pizza and great pasta dishes

Gnocco-signaure dish is gnocco a fried dumpling

Supper-northern italian, small setting

Personally we avoid Little Italy

And you don't need limit yourself to the Lower East Side, just because you are staying there. There's nothing really that magical about being able to walk to and from dinner. So grab a cab and venture other places if you know a restaurant you really want.

I highly recommend Apizz on Eldrige Street. Great food from the wood-burning oven and a romantic atmosphere. Forget Little Italy Manhattan.
