I can' speak to those locations specifically, but I've stayed at Hampton Inns all over and been very happy. Great beds, great coffee, nice enough breakfast. I know there's one in the historic district in Savannah.
Those are two great places to spend time. Enjoy your trip!
For something special try Inn at Ellis Square in Savannah
Casa Monica in St Augustine historic super special.
betterbidding.com for priceline.comhotwire.com deals.
Do you care about location, etc???
The Hampton Inn in the historic district on Bay St. is a fantastic location. Right across the street from the access to the river and easy walking to the many squares and restaurants in Savannah.
It has free breakfast and free internet, but I seriously doubt you will find free parking at any of the decent hotels.
The Hampton Inns downtown both charge for parking; the charge at the Inn and Suites is less than that at the nearby HI Historic District. The HI out off I-95 (Port Wentworth) which offers everything you want has free parking
Thunderbird Inn has free parking and wifi
Free breakfast is just doughnuts and coffee
You didn't say how much you want to pay. We stayed at the Ballastone Inn in Savannah and Casa Monica in St. Augutine, and can't say enough good about each place. However, both were splurges for us but worth every penny. The parking at the Ballastone is limited, but when they had a full house we were given a placard to put on the dashboard and parked in front of the hotel, normally a limited or no parking area. The Casa Monica has an underground garage. I don't remember if we paid extra for parking in either place. We did tip the valets at the Casa Monica. I think you would love both places, but they are expensive.
I paid for parking at the Inn at Ellis Square (which I would describe as a basic three star) and for parking at Casa Monica. I agree with Giovanna, it is a wonderful hotel and a splurge.
The secret to getting a great room rate in Savannah is staying during the week rather than weekend. Rooms are often 1/2 during the week.
The historic district in Savannah is their downtown as well, and like most downtowns, parking is hard to come by, and space is at a premium. I can't imagine any historic district hotels having the space to offer free parking. Sometimes it's worth the price to get a place in the area you want to be, and I would not let lack of free parking determine where I stay!
The Hampton Inn at I95 at Port Wentworth may have free parking but it is not convenient for the Historic District. Traffic can be congested coming into Savannah via Hiway 21 and you are almost 20 minutes via I95 and I16 if traffic is clear. After the drive, then you have to find a place to park. Stay in the Historic District and pay the parking.
Thank you, guys, for all your suggestions and ideas!
I stayed at the Springhill, it was new but on the edge of the historic distruct but very walkable. They had free breakfast. It was very nice and clean.
Bed and breakfast inns like Presidents' Quarters Inn and Green Palm Inn have delightful breakfasts, free parking and WiFi. If you want to stay near the I95 south, Inn at Mulberry Grove (Exit 109, I95) markets "comfortable rates and comfortable comforts". I can vouch for the great night's sleep I enjoyed, plus they have parking, Wifi and hot-waffles breakfast buffet.
