Good hotel near Atlanta Aquarium ...

We may spend a night in Atlanta, enroute to Florida, just to see the aquarium there. Have never been there and am looking for a clean, comfy hotel, safe neighborhood near the aquarium. Something like Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express, etc. would be just fine. Any suggestions?

The Aquarium in smack downtown--near the Georgia Congress Center. I believer there are branches of your mentioned hotels in that area.

Thanks for your reply, TrvlMaven. I found an "aquarium package" for the Marriott Atlanta Downtown, 3 blocks from the aquarium. A deluxe king room, complimentary valet parking, two buffet breakfasts, two aquarium tickets for $189 for the night. That sounds pretty good to me. What do you guys think?

Since it's now smoke free, I think that sounds pretty good.

elsiemoo--
What a deal, I'd jump on it! If you don't want to travel too far for dinner, you might consider McCormick & Schmick's (great seafood!)--yes, a little humorous after being at the aquarium!

I was just going to ask for restaurant recommendations, TrvlMaven. I will probably take your suggestion. The Sheraton is also offering a similar package for about the same price, and they have an indoor/outdoor pool. Any thoughts on which hotel is nicer? Thanks, all, for your replies!

Elsiemoo--you didn't say what time of year you will be traveling--so don't know if indoor vs. outdoor pool would really make a difference. The Mariott is a little closer to the Aquarium and if memory serves me, it's uphill from there to the Sheraton if that makes any difference at the end of the day. Both hotels will have close access to the Interstate. Enjoy!

TrvlMaven, just checked tripadvisor.com and Sheraton doesn't get good marks on there, and a couple of people mention that steep climb! Think I'll go with the Marriott, as it does get good reviews and I think they're giving you a good deal for the money. I don't think I'll beat that ... thanks again for your help!
