Big Truck Taco-no longer in a truck, now in building. line moves fast at lunch,so don't worry if it's out the door. Anything here is good. AWESOME!!!!
Mutt's Amazing Hot Dogs-also owned by the same people that on BTT
Cuppies and Joe--Cupcakes and great coffee-this is a couple of blocks from BTT
Cattlemans Steakhouse--breakfast, lunch or dinner
Known for their steak, chicken fried steak. However, I think the best thing there is their Lamb Fries(aka Mountain Oysters or Calf Fries) Theirs is better than anyones i've ever tried.
Irma's Burgers is pretty good too
Not to far from OKC is the town of Acadia on RT 66.
Anyway, Pops there is worth a stop. There food is just decent(burgers, etc). But the selection of soda's there is beyond anything else. Probably 100 Root Beers alone plus another 400 or 500 of other drinks. Get on a website that rates the top 10 rt. beers and buy some of those. I personally like Bulldog Root Beer(usually rated on everyone's Top 3), they don't always have it though. The Root Beer Bread Pudding there is good.
not Acadia, but Arcadia
I immediately thought of Cattlemen's Steakhouse, which I see spirobulldog has already mentioned. Excellent!
Thanks for all of the great suggestions-- my darling hubby is a fan of BBQ and rootbeer so Pops will be a stop for sure!!
Are you driving thru Oklahoma on I-40 by chance?
Now the food at Pops isn't great, it isn't bad. Just kinda standard. Definately worth a stop.
Yes, headed through OK on way to wedding in Arkansas--will stop at POP's!!
Stop at Sallisaw and eat bbq @ Wildhorse Mountain BBQ.
It will only be about 2 miles out of your way. This is not far from AR/OK line.
At one time it had a dirt floor and sold beer from a vending machine outside. The original owner(think of soup guy on Seinfeld) died about 10 years ago and his son has been running it since. It isn't as unusual, but it is still very unusual. The sauce is very original and unique. All they have is beans, ribs, and a sandwich. Just this year they added a hot link. I would guess it has been in business 50 years or so.
We have changed plans and are now heading back home to CA by way of Sallisaw on the 40 so will definitely eat my way back home--thanks for all of the wonderful suggestions
