Good Fares on Last Minute Flights?
Is there such a thing?
The Yankee has to take a short flight this week. Actually, the flight is about an hour!
But the airfare is about $800-$2,000.
I/we have never used Priceline, etc, so could someone give me advice on getting better airfares for last minute flights?
Who to use?
Thank you

Hi mrwunrfl~
He has been sworn to secrecy but it is from Jax. Leaving Sun night returning Wed night. I had hoped that Orbitz or something similar would be a good idea..but no.
It is such a short hop! aarrgghh.

Ok. An hour flight would be something like Atlanta or Miami, about 270 miles or so. That would be a good 5 or 6 hour drive.
You might get a better airfare if he left tomorrow (best to buy tonight if you would do that). Only other thing I could suggest is to check fare for flying out on Monday morning.

Check various websites for last minute deal. Also look at packages with hotel and/or rental car. Even if you don't use the hotel or car, it may still be cheaper than the ticket alone.
Also if there's no Saturday night stay, consider buying two roundtrip tickets instead. You don't want the airline to know, so maybe best to buy two seperate roundtrips from two seperate airlines. Or at least use two different credit cards and don't give the airline the FF number on one of the purchases.

Scarlett, this might too late, but Travelzoo has some good specials you might be interested in. They have one this weekend $89 from Jacksonville to Miami.

Or try, http://dir.travelzoo.com/Air.asp?intCategory=11
Sometimes I look at Site59 too.
Good luck!

Correct. AirTran is the Valujet. After the Everglades crash and its aftermath, Valujet bought out a much smaller carrier called AirTran, and then switched its name to that carrier.
Anyways, I think they're fine right now. If the price is right, you really shouldn't have problems with them.

Don't know if it's too late Scarlett, but on a thread I think on the European board someone mentioned airfares.com with great savings. Don't know if they do domestic.
Does Southwest fly in your fair city?
The potential problem with Priceline is you don't know how many connections you'll get (I think) but more important, you give them the dates you want to fly, but can't specify time of day. You could wind up arriving too late for a meeting. No Sat. night stay = business traveler=rip-off. Good luck.
