Good eats in Portland Oregon?
Hello friends,
A good friend of mine is spending 3 nights in Portland in early August. She is staying at the Mark Spencer and will be using public transport to get around. Can you suggest some good breakfast, lunch and dinner restaurants for her? She's a fairly adventurous eater who appreciates fresh and interesting food. Price point is moderate. Many thanks!

Oh q .... I wish I were there now ...Actually, I really wish I were there now, it is freezing cold in Buenos Aires and my friend in Portland says it is Hot Hot Hot !
ok... here is a list of my fave places, in no particular order. The Mark Spencer is right on the border of the Pearl District, the Streetcar goes right past the hotel .. good spot.
Breakfast:
the Pearl Bakery ...
Fullers ... on the same street as the Pearl Bakery (NW9th)
Mothers Bistro
(Mind you, I have no idea what prices are there anymore..)
Lunch:
Paragon (calamari)
Everett St Bistro ( I love the salad with crab cakes)
bluehour does a good lunch and Happy Hour ( sit outside though, inside is too stuffy)
Silk if she likes Vietnamese wonderfulness.
Dinner:
Wildwood ( because I miss it and wish I were there now)
Piazza Italia .. like being in Italy - really .. owners and staff are all Italian and speak to each other in Italian and RAI is on the tv all day lol ... but the food is fabulous.. super casual, down home Italy kind of food.
Oba for Latin American fun food, great margaritas ..
There are so many more, that place is just chock full of Fantastic restaurants.

Right around the corner is Jake's Famous Crawfish. Wonderful atmosphere (110 years old) and excellent food. Another favorite is Kell's Irish Restaurant & Pub in Old Town. Friendly ambiance and large, varied menu.

Nah, the bike is on the back of the vehicle right now...they are racing up, stopping and eating every hour
A couple other places not mentioned yet that I really like are Lorn and Dotties for breakfast ( a block from Mother's), Henry's 12th Street Tavern, Jakes Grill, Fenouil, Higgins, Carafe, and Red Star Tavern. Those are all pretty much some basics, but are consistently good and all within easy walking distance of the downtown core.

I thought it was interesting when I read elsewhere that a person who stayed at the Nines hotel, ate at the Red Star Tavern 3 times on their visit to Portland... and never at the hotel Nines :- )
I love afternoon tea or drinks at the Red Star and dinner and breakfast too lol.

Sorry, I wasn't paying attention that you will be here soon All of those are great things to do this time of year. However, as much as I love OMSI, I would put it towards the bottom of the list because it is inside. So unless it is a roasting hot day and you need a break from the heat, do the other things first. Hopefully our weather will cool down a bit before you arrive...it will be scorching for the next week!

Thanks for the list mms. I will be there the second week of August hopefully it will have cooled down. I'm not one for extreme heat. I missed registrating for my sock classes I'll have time to check out Portland.
