Going to the Sun Road RV Restriction?
I have read that RVs more than 8 feet wide or 21' long are restricted from traveling the highest, narrowest portions of the Going to the Sun Road in Glacier NP. I am planning a trip to the Canadian Rockies and Glacier for next summer and am trying to figure out whether it is possible to loop between Waterston Park/ Kalispell/ Cranbrook/ Lake Louise with an RV that will probably be 22-24 ft in length. Is it worth parking the RV near the St Mary entrance and then taking a touring bus back and forth on the Going to the Sun road? If so, how much time/distance will I be adding to my trip to later find an alternate route west to Kalispell from the St Mary entrance?

There are some Montanans (is that what you call them?) who I know are more knowledgable than me, but you can take route 2 along the southern boundary of Glacier National Park to get from St. Mary to the west side and Kalispell.
I spoke with someone in an RV who was renting a car to do the Going to the sun road. I'd recommend this if you want to do some hiking - there are some great hikes along Going to the Sun Road.
You will have a wonderful trip. Glacier is our favorite national park, and the Canadian Rockies are awesome!

Route 2 is probably faster than the going to the Sun Road due to the speed limits and possible construction delays. I don't see Cranbrook on my map but you mention a driving loop. You can't drive in a circle around Glacier and return to Waterton. The only border crossing is on the east side of the park. I agree with Karens that you should drive the going to the sun road. Take the jammer bus if you don't have the time to rent a car from Kalispell. The east side of the park is nice but getting into the park is better. A stop in Many Glacier and the Two Medicine area along the way is great too and I think you can take the RV there.
