Hi, I going to New Orleans for the Essence Music Festival July 1, 2, 3. Wanted to knwo if anyone has been and what else is going on down there during that time that I should check out. Also, and must see places/things to do? One other thing, I am staying at the Queen and Crescent Hotel, has anyone stayed there or heard of it before? Also, would I need to rent a car or is the ample public transportation.
Thanks!

I wouldn't recommend getting a car. Get a cab or take mass transportation. Both are plentiful. Parking is difficult. Furthermore, traffic violations are not treated lightly here. When I stayed in NOLA, our B&B host told us about the time she was pulled over for a registration problem. However, she wasn't given a ticket, but was taken to lockup!
I agree that you don't need a car. Your hotel is fairly well-located, although a cab may not be a bad idea late at night. There is a big fireworks show on the river for the 4th of July, but Essence is the only major event during that time. Be prepared for hot/cold weather, too...bring lots of shorts for the outside and long sleeves for the air conditioned Dome. (Last time I was in the Superdome I almost froze!)
