Going to Dallas to shop! Mall recommendations?

Hi -- My sister and I are doing our annual shopping weekend in Dallas next weekend. (We had been considering Las Vegas, but the plane fares from here were too outrageous.) We're staying at the Westin Galleria and will be shopping there most of the time. Any other nice mall nearby we should go to also that would have some different stores?

Five to six miles north of the Galleria on the Dallas Tollway is The Shops at Willow Bend, an upscale mall in Plano. A couple of miles north of that in Frisco, just off the tollway on Rte 121, is Stonebriar Mall, a nice but more price-friendly mall...JC Penney's, Macy's, Sears, Nordstrom's. Surrounding Stonebriar is several acres of retail space...for what you don't find in the mall.

Shopping is a favorite sport in Dallas so you have lots to choose from. Willow Bend and Stonebriar are probably the easiest to find from the Galleria.

Enjoy!

I'm not so keen on the Galleria anymore, and much prefer Northpark. http://www.northparkcenter.com/

Galleria began with a huge bang, but some of the best (IMHO) stores left--Barneys, Marshall Fields, Gumps. Barney's has now come back to town, but to Northpark. It is certainly worth your time to make the trip over! Are you locked into the Westin?

Northpark, Northpark, Northpark! (In addition to the Galleria where you'll be staying). I wouldn't bother going to Plano or Frisco when everything you could possibly shop for is available (for purchase) at Northpark or the Gallleria.

Northpark! It is located on 75 and Northwest Highway. Fabulous stores that other malls do not have. You will enjoy staying at the Westin and visiting the Galleria. My mother and I did that same trip when I was growing up and had a blast! I live in Dallas now, so for a second mall with some serious shopping, I recommend Northpark all the way!

I agree about Northpark! If you have time, check out Highland Park Village at Mockingbird & Preston. The Christmas decorations are beautiful, and there are several options for an affordable lunch or dinner (Mi Cocina/Patrizios). Shopping includes Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, Anthropology, Kiehls, along with higher end stuff that's fun for window shopping - Jimmy Choo, Chanel, Calvin Klein.

Definately Northpark.
My biggest gripe about Willow Bend is that there's no Gap or Banana Republic. I do venture up to WB if I'm looking for a particular item from Anthropolie, BabyStyle or JCrew that the Northpark stores don't have.

Northpark has better food options...like the restaurant in Nordstrom NP has much, much better than Galleria. NP has PF Changs, Maggianos.
Barney's was at NP previously - in the spot where Tiffany is currently located...BUT the new Barney's is bigger and better.

If you have men on your list, check out Billy Reid in NP.

Lush is great girlfriends on your list - great smelling bathbombs, soaps, etc.

Check out the mall websites for store listings.

Can't speak for the malls but I would head downtown to the flagship Neiman Marcus. Even if you don't want to pay their prices, it's a fun stop.

That's a good suggestion, drool - downtown NM has great choc chip cookies; you can sit at the coffee bar and have a snack. Choc chip cookies aren't the same at NP NM - don't know why.

Thanks for the great replies! Sounds like we'll definitely be heading to Northpark. (I hope the weather is better there next weekend than it is here right now. It's 15 degrees with snow. Shouldn't complain though -- we've got a "snow day" off school, which is why I'm home now instead of teaching!)

Yea! Galleria and Northpark... ALMOST all you need.
The only other place I would hit is Sam Moon, just down the street from the Galleria.
Head WEST on 635 a few miles and take the Harry Hines exit. Sam Moon is on your right, about 300 yards down.
YOU HAVE TO GO TO SAM MOON!!!!!!!!!

Another vote for NorthPark! Like others said, I never go to the Galleria anymore.

If you like bargains, it's worthwhile to drive up to Allen to the Allen Premium Outlets. They have a great number of stores at great prices. I usually go once a year to stock up on basics. (They have the usual Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, and some higher-end stores.)

Sam Moon is GREAT! They have knock-off purses/accessories, and tons of inexpensive costume jewelry. DO NOT GO ON A SATURDAY! The place is a ZOO! If you can hit it on Friday instead, you will thank yourself. (They are close don Sundays.) There is a whole plaza around it full of small shops and places to eat.

Northpark is much better than the Galleria, although I was recently in the Calleria for the first time in several years, and I was impressed.

Willow Bend is a joke. The mall is half empty! Yes, it has a few unique stores, and a HUGE Dillard's, but there's little else to recommend it.

Grapevine Mills is further west on 635 at 121. There's also a Bass Pro Shop Outdoor World there if you have men to buy for! (They do have nice women's clothing, too.)
