Glacier Bay Lodge or Gustavus? +SE Alaska?
We are planning a 2 week trip to SE Alaska for early September. Will be using the AMHS ferries & visiting Ketchikan, Petersburg, Sitka & Juneau. Looking for any suggestions on neat places to stay.
Also plan to do the Glacier Bay boat trip & spend 2 nights at Glacier Bay NP. One big question is whether to stay in the Lodge at Bartlett Cove (we like the idea of being in the Park & close to trails & the visitor center - but they really seem to be pushing Package trips - & why can't I find a picture of the lodge??), or in one of the Inns in Gustavus (sound lovey but not in the park & 10 miles away!). Debating flying there, or taking the small ferry with the whale cruise.
Hope to also visit Misty Fiords & Tracy Arm (redundant after Glacier Bay??)
This will probably be our only trip to Alaska... so would appreciate any suggestions on the best places to stay in Juneau, Sitka, Ketchikan & Glacier Bay and the best things to do. THANK YOU!

We haven't been to SE Alaska yet, but are travelling the Inland Passage by ferry this July. I've been researching B&B's extensively. Juneau has a B&B reservation service that was exceptionally helpful: 1-907-586-2959. I'd be happy to pass on more info after our trip!

Galcier Bay Lodge is a rip-off - definately Gustavus- the people are very friendly- we stayed a TL's? (send me an email and i'll double check the name ) he had bicycles you could use to ride on the unpaved roads (bring bike shorts- uncofortalbel for your rear on unpaved roads) - get to know the real Alaskans and stay in B&B's in Gustavus- they'll give you a great breakfast and drive you to the cruise for free.
Have a great trip

RIght - me again. Just to let you know Tracey Arm and Glacier bay differ significalntly enough- Tracy has lots of seals (at least they did in July 95) and Glacier bay is more open spaced - we saw orcas at Glacier bay- the glaciers do get a bit monotonous after a while.... go for the animal diversity.

Thanks for the tip on Glacier Bay Lodge & the info on Tracy Arm - sorry for not responding sooner - been away for awhile.
Any recomendations on which tour to take to Tracy Arm? We are still planning to do both.
Do you think the name of the B&B may have been TRI? I see them listed for Gustavus.
