Girls weekend away

So my friend is too nervous to go to New York City so we've decided on a weekend away to West Virginia. We had thought about going white water rafting, but the only weekends that work for us are Memorial Day weekend or the first weekend in June.

We thought of maybe a spa type weekend or something similar. We're probably on a budget of about $600 total for the weekend, hotel, gas from DC, meals etc.

If you know of a good hotel, spa, something to do in this area please let me know. We have looked at a few books that give suggestions for weekend trips from DC, and we're kinda set on West Virginia for now. We're not that into history, which seems to be what most trips near DC are about.

The Greenbriar and Homestead (in VA on the WV border) are the most famous spas in WV. Your price point will be questionable, but you never know if you are asking about a slow period and can get a deal. Both locations are old elegance with awesome food and service.

Ok so we've changed our minds again. We're thinking about white water rafting. Late May early June still going to be too cold, or will we be able to do it without wetsuits? Is there an outfitter you recommend? We're interested in some sort of overnight package, any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I suggest that you re-post with West Virginia white water rafting in your title and you'll get more responses.

You can get a very nice girlfriends weekend in West Virginia for that budget. I suggest you look at bed & breakfasts rather than resorts. The MountainState Association of Bed & Breakfasts www.wvbnbs.com lists all members (all are inspected) and you can search by region or amenity. Many have great packages that include packed lunches or a dinner and directions to anything you may care to see or do. Many are near rail-trails, antiques, crafts, or adventure. You can probably get a weekend for 2 for the price of one night at the Greenbrier.
I do hope you come and enjoy WV often.
