Girl friend meet up in August - Need Ideas

One coming from San Diego
One from Atlanta
Ideally a non stop for each of us.

Just a 3 day trip. So ideally just non-stop travel and not a ton of driving. Maybe weekend for 8/13 - TBD

Thought about Santa Fe but quick search makes me worried it's too busy. We'd want some hiking, wandering around shops, long leisurely meals, some spa or swimming time

Also thought about Park City as a good priced Summer getaway with nature and lower crowds. Other western ski areas that would serve as a good summer spot that don't require lots of driving from airport?

No interest in doing "Las Vegas" but convenient flights could mean we could just squirrel away in a nice hotel and chill.

SF a little far for me from Atlanta and I travel there often.

I don't love Pheonix and very hot. But bet we could have a super fancy hotel at good prices?

Not the same type of trip but had thought of New Orleans - but again August is no good for that right? Too hot.

Would love airfares to be $300 +/- and would spend up to $300 per night on hotel.

Would love any ideas.

I definitely wouldn't go to New Orleans in August (due to the weather). What about Chicago? Lots to do....usually many flights and great choice of hotels.

I think the western ski area idea would fit the bill, but except for Park City, most of them require that you drive from the nearest major airport (for example, Breckenridge is a great little town, but it's about 80 miles from Denver). Aspen would be perfect (great hiking, great shopping, great restaurants), but unless you fly into Aspen airport, it's a really long drive.

Less than 3 hours from Denver to Glenwood Springs. The Glenwood Canyon section of I-70 is one of the most scenic in the US.
Glenwood Springs has the largest hot spring fed swimming pool in the US. Lodging is much cheaper than Aspen which is only 41 miles away. The westbound and eastbound California Zephyr serve Glenwood Springs if you did not want to drive from Denver.

Denver flights from both are inexpensive. Stay in Denver or go to Boulder which is not far. Nice hotel & spa is St. Julien. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev..._Colorado.html

One problem with Santa Fe in August is that is New Mexico's monsoon season! Think lots of thunderstorms and rain.
