Gift certificate to Nick's Fishmarket (Maui) for a wedding present?

My brother is going to Maui for his honeymoon and I was thinking of giving them a gift certificate to Nick's Fishmarket for their wedding gift. Good idea or bad?

Will they be able to get a reservation for the week they are there, once they arrive on Maui? (since they won't be getting the gift card until two days before they leave for Maui). I myself went to this restaurant last July, but I made reservations 2-3 weeks in advance (but I'm the anal organized freak). I just want to make sure they will actually be able to use the gift card the week they are there.

Any thoughts? I know *I* would have loved to have gotten a gift certificate for our honeymoon.

Thanks!

Well if they are in the hood, I think it's a wonderfully thoughtful gift. Call Nicks and inquire how to make this the perfect gift, at the perfect table and the reservation dilemna. I'm sure they will be able to gude you thru it...or you could make a couple of reservation for them and let them cancel....but they must cancel!!! If they are sold on the idea of GW, they will love it!

I was just thinking, they actually lost our reservation, so it really didn't matter that I had called 3 weeks ahead.
But good point, I'll ask them when I call about the gift card. I really don't want to make the reservation for them, because I don't know what they have planned (like what night they are going to a luau etc.).

amelie,

I just returned from a wedding for a dear friend. I gave her and new husband their gift early. They are statying at the Ritz in Kapalua. They should be there now. I put together a wedding package with the theme of something borrowed, etc.

One of the items was a gift certificate to dinner at a restaurant in the vicinity. They are so excited. Her hubby grabbed me and squeezed the heck out of me yesterday after the wedding. He was more excited than she was and said it was something that they are looking forward to.

So go for it. I went to the restaurant myself, checked out the menu and prices, and purchased a gift certficate accordingly. I actually wish I purchased one for another restaurant as well. One "fancy" and the other casual.
