Getting to Yankee Stadium
I am very intimidated at the thought of trying to get from Manhattan (my first trip), staying at the Broadway Inn, to Yankee stadium. Can anyone provide complete directions on the easiest way to do this, either by ferry or subway (express?). How to get from hotel to subway or ferry (Yankee clipper) and back, etc. This is a lifelong dream of ours and hope someone can help!

You didn't state WHY you are intimidated (safety concerns, fear of trains, fear of doing something 'wrong'), but here's how to do it.
From the Broadway Inn, West 46th Street:
1. Walk east on 46th to 6th Avenue, and enter the 47-50 Rockefeller Center Subway station.
2. Look for the vending machines with touchscreens.
3. Follow the on-screen directions to purchase Metrocards for everyone in your party. You most likely want a regular Metrocard for this particular trip (save it as a memento!). Put $4 of value on the card per person.
4. Approach the turnstile. Swipe the Metrocard with a smooth motion with the black stripe facing LEFT. Do this for each person in your party.
5. Look for signs. You want to take the "D" train. Signage for this train will have an Orange circle.
6. Find where to get the "D' Train going UPTOWN or THE BRONX. Signs will hang above the correct platform or staircase.
7. Go down the stairs and wait by the platform. Do not hang out on the edge of the platform. Feel free to sit on a bench.
8. When the "D" train arrives (it will have a BIG sign on the front as well as many, many signs on the side), board the train. If the conductor or motorman is hanging out tof the side window, ask him if the train goes to Yankee Stadium. Check to make sure it is a BRONX-BOUND train.
9. You may notice that many, if not all, of the people on the train are going to the Stadium, too.
10. Continue on the "D" train to the station called- 161 STREET/YANKEE STADIUM (signs may also say RIVER AVENUE).
11. Get off the train. You can look for signs that say "Yankee Stadium" but a better bet is to follow the huge game-day crowds. The station connects directly to the Stadium. Follow the signs for the "4" train to get a nice outside view of the area- the "4" is elevated.
That's it!
Reverse the process to get home. You will want a "D" train going towards MANHATTAN/BROOKLYN then.

Take the 4 train to 161st Street/Yankee Stadium from Grand Central. You cannot go wrong! And you will be very safe. On game day, lots and lots of New Yorkers in Yankee baseball caps will be riding with you -- both ways! Go for it! We are not a scary city. We are a great city! I agree -- take the 4. Nothing to do with safety -- it's safe either way -- but the 4 actually exits the tunnel outside Yankee Stadium and gives you a nice view inside from the outfield. The 4 may be a nicer train (as in appearance) too.
The D lets you off underground, which isn't very exciting.

The B train goes to Yankee Stadium as well, but like the D, lets you off underground. I would say take the train closest to where you will be, between the 4, D or B trains, but the 4 will give you the best view.
Also, depending on when you are coming, tickets may be hard to come by. Obviously afternoon games during the week are easier to pull off than weekend night games. However, if you are coming during the times the Yankees are playing the Mets or the Red Sox, the only way you can score tickets is via Ebay.
PS Through the Yankees.com website, there are $5 seats available for certain games in the Tier Box or Tier Reserved sections. Scored tickets for next Tuesday that way......

I go to Yankee stadium all the time from midtown NYC. It is crowded and very, very safe. Also, as the train heads uptown, you will notice a bunch of Yankees caps and shirts, etc. and you can follow them all as they head to the stadium. It's easy.
By the way, they won't let you bring large bags in to the stadium, and men can't carry ANYTHING -- so take a small purse and that's it.

If you have the time, I'd strongly suggest you get to the Stadium when the gates first open. (About 90 minutes before the first pitch.) You can walk through Monument Park, a great experience for someone on their first trip to the Stadium.
Also, if you're hannging around in the first few rows of LF during batting practice, you might get the chance at a ball or two.
