Getting to the 7 Sacred Pools
My husband and I are going to be in Maui for a business trip in early February. The company has a number of activities already planned for us. There is one day (starting at noon) where we can do something on our own. We were thinking about getting a car and driving to the 7 Pools, Red Beach, Black Beach via the road on the south side of Haleakala (Highway 37 to Highway 31) and then stopping for dinner at the Haliimaile General Store. We've already seen a good portion of the road to Hana on our first trip to Maui - but didn't make it the whole way. Is it safe to drive on the dotted lines if we rent a jeep? Is this a trip we can make in an afternoon/evening? Any other tips???
Thanks in advance,
Kim

You can get to Seven Pools from Hana. The road is closed just past Seven Pools.
Check news reports. The entire road may be open by the time you get to Maui.
You do not need a 4-wheel drive to get to Seven Pools.

We drove the Road to Hana on the 26th to Seven Sacred Pools. The "temporary" bridge is not a problem at all to drive over. I recall a sign indicating that the road is closed about 3 miles past the Pools as you're driving in a clockwise direction.

Please, be aware that you can't go to the Sacred Pools taking the southern route. I'm in Maui right now and I've been to Hana twice since last sunday. In order to get to the 7 Sacred Pools you have to take Hana Highway all the way over there. They completely shutdown the road between Kaupo and Kipahulu. In the other hand, you won't regret taking the famous Road to Hana, which is a gorgeous drive. There are waterfalls everywhere on each side of the road and the ocean sightseeing is just amazing.
