Gelato on or near the Mag Mile Chicago

Where on or around the Mag. Mile can we find good gelato like that served in Europe?

You are in luck. Go to the John Hankock building and there is a lower "patio" area. At the far end there is an Italian deli that has terrific galato! The deli is busy, but the galato is original. Enjoy and send me some!

and while you are at it, get a sandwich in the back, but be sure to be ready when they call your number, they don't like it if you dawdle.

This past summer I took my 9 year old niece to that deli for lunch, and we took the sandwich outside and ate on the steps while a Latin band played. She was fascinated with the fast paced deli during lunch hour and loved people watching on the steps (my sister is holding her hostage in northwest Indiana, and I like to kidnap her on occasion). Granted it would be a bit cold to sit outside and eat now (brrr), but on that hot summer day it was quite a treat.

If you want gelato in December, more power to you. But I second the place in the Hancock (across the plaza from The Cheesecake Factory) -- it's called L'Appetito.

Look out for the daggerlike icicles that fall from the edge of the John Hancock building as they thaw in the sunshine. Crazy!

Thanks for the great info. Yes, I know it is crazy to want gelato in Chicago in December but where we live people don't even know what it is, so you have to indulge when you have the opportunity!! Thanks again

No, we have to indulge too. I didn't mean the "crazy" comment directed at you for wanting gelato in Dec. but that someone didn't realize that icicles would form and fall off the JH Building and be really dangerous. Sometimes when they have it cordoned off so no one gets hit.

Make sure you get the popcorn everyone stands in line for on Michigan Ave.

Garretts popcorn! CAPH mentioned that they are changing hands. I'm sure they must be getting the secret recipe - they would be fools not to!! It's the best

We had the gelato at L'Appetito - it's very tasty!

I LOVE L'Appetito. There is also a location on Wabash, near Ontario I think. They have really good coffee too, and very reasonable prices.
