Really like Gayot's Top 10 French Bistros in NYC - but how can you really list the top 10 Steakhouses in America? There are probably 10 very good ones in NYC alone (I really liked Bobby Van's was it - huge bone in ribeye that could stand up to anything and StripSteak in Greenwich Village is always highly rated http://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc...anhattan%2C+NY )
and a number in Chicago - where some think the fabled Gibson's is down the list, not to mention Dallas, Portland, Seattle, Montana, Idaho (The Pioneer in Sun Valley for example http://travel.nytimes.com/2010/12/12...l/12hours.html serves a great steak - charcoal grilled right in front of your eyes). Washington State - and on and on.

Hey - there are 3 good steakhouses here in San Diego alone, and a couple more in Palm Springs/greater Coachella Valley - as well as Phoenix, and even several small towns in Oregon (where they raise Kobe Beef - see http://www.wagyu.org/oregon.htm) and so forth.

Heck - we raised our own beef where I grew up in Southern Oregon (Klamath Falls) and the Angus and Hereford were second to none - as we have the best Alfalfa you can find! It was so good (due to the volcanic based soil/former lake bed) - that the Japanese were buying up land/ranches in the area back in the 90's - so they could ship this premium "grass" back to Japan for their Kobe Beef.

Guess the Kobe Beef/Wagyu Beef Assoc in Oregon didn't print - but there are a number of ranches raising these cattle - with help from research at Oregon State University. Here is one for example: http://www.suttoncreekcattlecompany.com/

I've been to 6 of the 10 so here is MHO

Alexander's #1? - not in my book
Bern's and Gibson's could share the #1 spot
Peter Luger and Prime could share #2 spot
Bone's in #3 spot

can't comment on the rest, but Alexander's would probably not make my list or if it did it would be #10 spot.

Mais Non! Good for you Sophie for being so diligent.

Again, loved your NYC Bistro list - and we wound up at a tres reasonable, traditional Bistro - Tout Va Bien, where they have a nice house wine - but also poured a very good Sangria (complimentary), but next time I do want to try at least a couple on your list.

And maybe get to Jubilee for their Sunday brunch and complimentary (unlimited?) Bloody Marys or Mimosas.

Well, this makes more sense - the steakhouse capital of the country (Dallas) is represented in this list, it wasn't in 2011.
