gas gouging with this tragedy?
i'm in chicago driving to so. utah tomorrow. drudge report says gas went up to $5 gallon in kansas city and $4 in other places. i can't afford trip at those prices. has anyone any information about their states, iowa, nebraska, colorado, utah? we are all in shock over the horrible situation in nyc. it would be a terrible thing if the oil companies took advantage of this massacre. thanks for any info tonight.

I'm in DeKalb, IL, filled up today at $1.69, don't expect prices to go down, will expect them to go up tonight, but hopefully nothing near $5.00/g.
Have plans to fly to SFO this Saturday for our 10 day trip to CA...if planes are flying then, I'm not sure I want to go. My prayers go out to all the victims & their families & for America & the world to be safe.

Looks like this is true, just heard from a couple people here in DeKalb, IL that the lines to buy gas are around the block, one says he saw gas at one station for $4.00! Also he says people are going crazy buying stuff at the groceries stores...I think we all need to stay calm.

Whether real or imagined, the filling stations here in Central Wisconsin are totally inundated with people trying to fill up. I'm afraid that this panic reaction will cause a disruption and serious problems -- whether it is warranted or not. I would not be comfortable rolling the dice on a long drive like that at this point, just based on what I'm seeing tonight.

I'm in Kansas City.
The uproar here was caused by a Conoco station which raised its prices to $5.50 within a couple hours of the NYC WTC attack. News spread quickly across local radio and TV outlets, spurring panic buying and clogging traffic due to long lines.
The Conoco station dropped its price to $1.85 one hour after the increase.
I'm sure there will be gouging tomorrow, though.

Cindy-Where was that station in Columbus? People should boycott him! I read in the paper this morning that a station in Pickerington (outside Columbus) was charging $6.00 a gallon, while a station down the street was charging only $1.46 and people were buying. Then they got wise and got pretty angry at the station and he lowered the price. Gov. Taft said he will investigate.
We must remain calm and not panic, if people start panicing prices will go through the roof.

Here's an interesting note for you. There is a small independent gas station that opened this summer out in the county when gas prices were so high. The owners are very obviously of Arabic descent. To establish their business, they were selling their gas ~$.10 cheaper than everyone else. To compete the name brand across the street has been matching them all along. EVERYWHERE else, the price has been significantly higher.
On the way home yesterday, I realized people were packing the gas stations. Today on the way in, that independent station kept the same price. The name brand station across the street had raised their price by $.10/gallon!

I'm in Tulsa and the gas price hike rumors are untrue. It was a rumor that it would occur and there was a run at all stations yesterday, but the prices remained the same. The only problem is most stations are now out of gas, which is a BIG problem for me as I need to fill my tank.

I bought gas yesterday in the Dallas area and paid what I have been paying for some time. If you are experiencing any hikes in gas prices, you can be assured that the increase is not coming from the oil companies.
Unfortunately, we have some fellow citizens who would even use a tragedy such as the one yesterday to line their pockets. Shame on them. They will have to answer for their actions someday.
Prayers and blessings to those whose lives were directly affected by yesterday's events.

Just paid $1.33 at my "regular" station in northwest Florida, which is about the same price as last week. Prices in this area have been slowly rising for the last 4 weeks.
Local news reports last night said gas prices had remained the same in parts of northwest Florida and rising about $.10 per gallon at some stations.
Even before the attack, the range in prices across northwest Florida was as much as $.50.

A similar thing happened here during the petrol tankard strikes. A few petrol stations charged more and one guy charged some ridiculously high amount - I think many people cheered when at the beginning of the year it was announced on the news that he had gone out of business, purely because of his greed!!!

All the prices in the Kansas City area have returned to normal prices. The KS & MO. attorney generals have establised hotlines and are promosing to prosocute any and all stations that gouged yesterday. The station near me has offered a $1.10 per gallon refund today.
