Gardens in Philadelphia...Longwood vs Morris Arboretum?

Both of these gardens sound really great! While I had hoped to visit both, I'll probably have to cut one. I feel like the Morris Arboretum would combine well with some walking through Chestnut Hill, while Longwood Gardens seems to be a separate destination. i'll be visiting the first week in May.

Any thoughts?

Longwood is really a destination in itself...Kennett Square is quite a distance from Philadelphia (it's doable, but just not 2 minutes away). Longwood is also very big and you could easily spend a day there.

One other garden to consider (which is also a destination but on a much smaller scale than Longwood) is Chanticleer in Wayne. There open season is from March - October, well within your visiting time.

Of all of them though, Morris does indeed sound like it will work best if you want to remain closer to the city (and see parts of Chestnut Hill).

As a member of the Pennsylvania Horticulture Society, I've been to just about every garden in the Philly area. The analysis of you and HB is correct: Longwood is superior but significantly farther away.

You post in late May that you'll be visiting in the first week of May? Boy, you plan WAY in advance -- I consider myself almost OCD because I plan a mere six month in advance!

OOps, I'm going at the end of May/first week in June! I'm going to a graduation of\ver the weekend, but 5/31, 6/1 and 6/3 for exploring on my own.

However, if I don't see all I want, I may indeed go back in May 2011!

Thanks. This will help with my planning.
