Gaitlinsburg area in mid January.....snow, ice restrictions?
Looking to travel to the Gaitlinsburg area in mid-January for a week and wondering if weather conditions would limit our visit. Also would there be things to do? Are the arts and craft center/shops, shows, shops open? Would the weather conditions hinder our visit since we are in the Smokey Mountains. Want to drive to Asheville for a day too? Open to any suggestions as to what to do at this time of year. Thanks ahead of time

We've been to the Smokies in January many times and the weather can be sunny and in the 50's or there can be tons of snow and ice. When you're in the mountains weather can be unpredictable. If you're just looking to stay in Gatlinburg and shop, etc., roads will be clear. Gatlinburg is open for business 12 months out of the year.
If you're looking to go into the park and do some hiking, the weather can be a factor. Higher elevations will definitely still have snow, while lower elevation trails should be okay.
