Full April?

Could somebody tell me if something special is going to happen in NYC around April?
My asking because I hardly can find an availabity in Midtown around TS/Theater District. First time in years. After checking the Cultural Event Finder on the MyNYCgov Portal, it does not seem that so much is happening around that time.
I suspect that people from Europe and Asia are just attracted the whole year round by the good purchase opportunities due to the weak dollar. I just experienced overbooking at the Wellington Hotel on 7th Avenue, my favourite place and will have to dwell at the Milford Plaza, which has an awful lot of bad reviews for cleanliness and service. Is this reputation deserved?
Thanks in advance.

April is a long time - 30 days. When in April do you mean? NYC is always busy, but with specific dates I'm sure those in the know can help better. Finally, what price range are you looking at? And where are you searching? Many booking sites such as Orbitz, hotels.com, etc. may show that a hotel is full when it is not because they've sold their allotment of rooms.

Many schools in New England have a week-long vacation in mid-April, starting on Patriots Day (the 18th this year). Here in the Boston area, we've had so many snow days this year, the public schools have used up our allotment and in order for the kids to not still be in school on the Fourth of July, they might have to give up part of their April school vacation. So I expect that more families than usual are making plans to stay close to home and make cancellable reservations rather than booking flights. I realize that accounts for a very tiny percentage of NYC travelers, but it would be on top of the usual tourists and conventions.

New York City and Manhattan in particular isn't just a tourist destination. It is the business capitol of the world and many people come to New York to work.

April is peak conference and convention month so even if there isn't a citywide convention, expect many hotels to be sold out due to individual conferences.

The first week of April also is Easter Break.

Since Easter is March 27, and the following Sunday is April 3, Easter will affect April travel a bit less than in most years. But in turn this might explain why there would be more conferences and conventions in April -- no conflicts with family holidays.
