We will be spending a week in the Ft Walton/Destin area in early October. Are there any suggestions for restaurants, winerys or brewerys?

Take a day and travel to the eastern beaches. Specifically, Santa Rosa, Grayton, Seaside, Rosemary Beach and Carrilon. (in that order from west to east) From the strip in Destin, it's about a 30-45 minute drive.
In Santa Rosa, there are a few restaurants dotted along the road and some good shopping.
In Grayton Beach, go to The Red Bar. During the busy season be prepared to wait about an hour...it's worth it. It's very eclectic, they only have a few things on their menu, but they're all great! Great Atmosphere! Must Go! There are also a ton of great little boutique shops.
In Seaside, Bud and Ally's is another great restaurant. Catch the sunset in the rooftop bar then go downstairs to have dinner. Shades is another restaurant that I would suggest for lunch. Great shopping here too.
Have fun!
Check out Baytown Wharf...a new little New Orleans village feel (at Sandestin Resort). Lots of cajun places to eat (Red Beans and Rice good at ACME Oyster House)! I love Copper Grill (part of Copper Kettle...their bakery and breakfast restaurant) for their lobster and steak. Pricey but worth it if you are celebrating something special. We have always loved Marina Cafe, Flamingo Cafe and The Ocean Club at Topsol resort...oh yea...Elephant Walk too...so many to choose from. For good down home seafood (with a cajun flare also) you have to head to Louisiana Lagnaippe. They really do have the BEST fried crab claws anywhere on the Coast. Hope this helps...also, shop at the outlet mall and treat yourself to the pizza place there. They guy that owns Gugliamo's opened it and the pizza and salads are great.
Have fun watching the sunset...it is most beautiful that time of year.!
