This September, my wife and I will be attending the Old Threashers Reunion in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. We'll be staying in Fort Madison.
I would appreciate suggestions on things to do and see in the area bounded by Ft. Madison, Nauvoo, Keokuk, Bentonsport, and Mt. Pleasant. Thanks for the input.

Nauvoo has a very interesting historical center operated by the LDS church. The major site in Burlington is Snake Alley, the crookedest street in the world. The drive from Ft. Madison to Keokuk is very pretty. As for food, if you want a real down-home rural Iowa experience, the Iowa Tavern in Burlington serves prime rib and catfish on Friday nights. There is also a "famous" resturaunt that is known for chicken, but I can't remember where it is. I was born and raised in the area, so email me if you have further questions.
The "Villages of Van Buren" area just North of Hwy 2 was peaceful and very special for shopping and historic sightseeing. We enjoyed visiting a shop called Iron & Lace, in Bonaparte (I think), where the artists talked about and demonstrated how they make their artwork/crafts.
