From Washington DC to Newark in two days- mid October
My family and I (husband + 21,18,12 y/o daughters) are going to end our three weeks trip to Florida and Washington, by driving to Newark. We plan to leave Washington on October 17 at noon, and our flight back to Israel is on October 19 afternon. Please advice us on the best route, with preference to nature and especially fall views (hope it's the right time to enjoy nature changing colors). Thanks.

Aziba,
From DC to Newark you can consider, in general, three different routes.
#1. The direct route is a 4-5hr drive straight up the highway, I-95 to the NJ Turnpike. This route will take you through Baltimore, and near Philadelphia. Since you have two days and want to see nature, you can do better than this route.
#2. If you head East, you can go through Annapolis, across the DelMarVa peninsula, take the ferry to Cape May, then travel north alonght NJ coast. This is a scenic drive, very rural. I've done this drive in the spring and summer when the weather is warm enough to enjoy the beach. The coastline is flat and you won't get any fall colors on this route.
#3. Maybe your best option given your preferences is to travel a Western route, looping through Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to the Pocono region of PA, near Scranton or Bethlehem. From there it is an easy drive East on Interstate highway 80 straight to Newark. You could easily drive from Scranton area to EWR in ~1.5hrs on the morning of your departure. The rolling hills of NE Pennsylvania have some beautiful foliage - not sure when peak season is but Mid Oct sounds about right. The area is generally known as the Poconos. There are many outdoor recreation and lodging options in the area, ranging from small hotels to larger family resorts.
I don't know the area well, as I usually just drive through on my way to and fro, but I am sure others can chime in with more detail.

suelh - Yes, this thread will not come up if one seach for DC posts, only Washington State post. But I can tell you almost everybody who reads this forum just go to "united states" and will see this post anyways.
Reposting it means people will see two different threads on the same subject, which will just add to confusion. That's why I recommend against doing it.

Thank you, rkkwan, for your reply -- perhaps I'm different from others in how I use the forum, but after bringing up the "United States," I go immediately to the state I'm focused on. That's why I made my suggestion to aziba.
Well, whatever.....cheers!
