Friday night in NYC

I'm in the UK and trying to put together a long weekend in NYC. So far the hotels I've checked can do Sat/Sun/Monday ok but either don't have vacancies on the friday or are charging 2 to 3 times the weekend rate. The date is friday 26th April - is this normal for NY on fridays or is something going on that day?

I'm no expert, but have been researching NYC hotels myself. I recommend that you check what's available through quikbook or hoteldiscounts.com.

It seems that indeed many hotels lower their rates beginning on Saturday nights, but not Friday. But others charge the same regardless; I suppose it has to do with whether their guests ar mainly business travelers or tourists.

All I could come up with is that there will be a March of Dimes 10-mile walkathon on Sunday the 28th. But I don't think that's enough to drive up the prices.

I think you are experiencing the normal policy for weekend hotel rates. You may have to try other hotels or possibly discount services such as priceline.com.

Thanks Ellen

In the UK most weekend rates include friday as business customers do not stay fridays.

If you don't need a specific hotel then take ellen's suggestion you can try www.priceline.co.uk
www.hoteldiscounts.com They have a UK phone number for making bookings.

xxx, both of the sites I recommended do list specific hotels and hoteldiscounts.com even lets you choose the type of room (double, triple, etc.). I've heard too many cautionary tales to recommend that anyone go with Priecline in NYC!
