"Free" room upgrades @ Treasure Island in Las Vegas

Has anyone here tried the infamous $20 dollar tip to the front desk clerk at Treasure Island recently?

We are going to be there in a couple of weeks. I have tried that at Paris (it worked), and I was wondering if it also works at Treasure Island (or Mirage, Bellagio or MGM, they have the same owner)
