Hi,
some colleagues and I will be in Milwaukee for business next week, and will have the Saturday 6th free.
Any suggestions on what to do/see (we will probably not have a car).
Thanks in advance!

You are in luck.....
Oktoberfest at the Bavarian Inn goes on every weekend in September.
If that is not your cup of brew, Milwaukee has great museums, excellent Zoo and Fests of some sort all the time.
Try www.onmilwaukee.com for more ideas.
Too bad you will not be there on Labor day weekend. It is the 100th anniversary of Harley, expecting several hundred thousand bikers in town!

It's probably a good thing you won't be in town over Labor Day. We just returned from WY and SD and there are hundreds of bikers headed that way. How can we say "crowded"
Both the Public Museum and the Art Museum are very good.
For a view of the lake, have a drink at the Pieces of Eight, but don't eat there. For a very special evening, our favorite restaurant is Sanford's.
Sept 6th events include the farmer's market in Cathedral Square park, and Indian Summer (an excellent native American festival) at the lakefront.
The Third Ward, just south of downtown, has galleries and shops; three restaurants we like there are Sauce, The Palms, and Caquette Cafe.
Where are you staying?
Thanks for the answers!

The Oktoberfest sounds nice. I'm quite interested in beers (as a Belgian I ought to). However, living so close to Germany, it would feel a bit odd to go all the way to WI, and attend Oktoberfest! However, I do plan to visit a microbrewery or two!
We do know about the HD anniversary! It caused us to postpone our meeting a week since there was no way to find a room in or around Milwaukee
Keep posting tips though!
Brew tours
You should do the Sprecker tour. They make the best regional beer (and rootbeer) IMHO. Could also do the Miller thing if you want to see big time beer production. Not sure if these tours take place on Saturdays or not. Phone first.
Just back from Milwaukee. What a nice city. The Riverwalk downtown has tons of restaurants and bars. One trip I saw advertised but couldn't do (and I think it was on Saturday) was a boat trip/brewery tour. You hopped on a boat along the Riverwalk and you cruised to 3 different breweries. Check the newspapers when you get there. We stayed at the Hyatt and the cruise started about a block from there. The cost was around $15/$20.
The Milwaukee Brewer's baseball team has a home game against the Chicago Cubs at Miller Park on Saturday at 6:05pm.

The boat/brewery tour sounds interesting! I'll check it out.
The baseball game is a good idea, but I'm not sure us Europeans will be able to grasp it all without somebody to explain us what's goind on. Also, from what I remember from my last stay in the US (10 years ago), I prefered footbal or basketball to baseball (seemed a bit boring, not much going on). Thanks anyway for the tip, it would have indeed made the Saturday a real American experience!
