Found money - need place for 12 for long reunion weekend
I am asking for suggestions for where to go for a family reunion over a long weekend. We found some lost money $10,000 and want to use it to have a small family reunion. There will be six couples, no children. We will use it to pay for airfare, lodging and transportation.
Our family likes to go, go, go. We are not ones to sit on the beach. We like history and local flavor. We have thought about
San Francisco or Washington DC.
We will be flying in on Friday from all over the US and will really only have two full days to spend together as we will all be leaving on Monday.
Any suggestions, thoughts, or ideas? Thanks for your time.

Shepherdstown, WV is where I live and it might fit the bill - five minutes to Antietam Battlefield, twenty to Harpers Ferry, several good restaurants downtown, an independent movie theater, and its the oldest town in WV and maintains a historic downtown. We are about 75 miles from either Dulles or BWI.

There is a great bed & breakfast there too - Thomas Sheperd Inn. It was ust featured on a TV news spot. www.thomasshepherdinn.com has a link to the news spot.

Not sure if you could find a cottage rental for a long weekend. You can probably find a large beach house at off-season rates which might be nicer for a family reunion than a hotel. One year we rented a 4 bedroom place/2 bath (it was one of the smallest we could find) on Emerald Isle area of NC. It was close enough to explore Wilmington area, New Bern, etc. The middle of the house was a huge room containing kitchen, dining and living room areas. Screen porch on the back and deck on the front. For a reunion I would think you would like some privacy for family time and wouldn't need so much tourist time. (going thru albums, showing slides, etc)
What a great thing to do with found money!
