Fort Lauderdale Air And Sea Show

I booked a room in For Lauderdale Beach for April 29 -May 3. I just found out that it is the same weekend as The air and sea show in Fort Lauderdale. Is this a big event? Or is just a small local type of deal?
It did not seem like the price of rooms came down much for the first of May. Is this normal,.or a result of the particular weekend, aka air and sea show weekend. In Hollywood Beach for the same weekend, there are rooms going for half of what they are right now in March for the first weekend of May. In Ft.Lauderdale, they hardly go down at all. Any know about his Air ans Sea Show?

It is a huge event. Rooms near the heart of the show will be sold out or more expensive. You can't see the show in Hollywood that is why they are cheaper. The center of the show is Sunrise Blvd where a lot of the water activity and stunts occur, but you can seee the planes a 1/2 mile in either direction.

The Air & Sea Show is a very big regional event (sponsored by McDonald's and other big sponsors.) Which hotel did you book? I'll let you know if it is in the thick of the action or out of the way. The main area of the show runs from The Yankee Clipper north to Sunrise Boulevard (Holiday Inn on the ocean.) The military puts on demonstrations and air traffic is intermittently halted due to military jets flying in/out of FLL airport. It's a great event. You may have stumbled onto something good!

If you are in the middle of all the action, you won't want to get a rental car because it will be useless for several days. They practice maneuvers the day before the actual event, so traffic is being blocked off the day before the event. I'm sure if you have a car you'll be able to come and go, but it will be extremely difficult, depending on where you are staying.

I checked the Air & Sea Show website and the area of the event extends north of Sunrise Blvd. The website is:

http://www.nationalsalute.com/flash.html

There are activities Friday, Saturday & Sunday. Friday is mostly checking maneuvers and events. There will also be a fireworks display. The website will fill you in. As the event nears, more info should be posted, as they are still working on the event.

I live in the flight path of FLL airport and see some of the military planes as they are landing. It's pretty cool.

Thanks guys. I will be at the Doubletree Oceanfront. Oh well, I guess I will just enjoy the show and the activity. I was trying to avoid the crowds, but I'll enjoy my vacation just the same.

Nuwaver, you'll have the Water Taxi for transportation to the Las Olas or other areas of Ft Lauderdale during your stay. Have fun 8-) Many people would love to have your hotel location.

@Nuwaver. I did the SAME thing. I thought I was getting some "quiet time" on the beach... We'll be staying at the Sheraton. Instead of looking forward to quiet time, I figured we would embrace the airshow whole hog. I hope you enjoy your trip and make the most of it.
