For Friday: Tell about dreams you've had about traveling, good or bad

I have a recurrent dream that I'm on a jumbo jet from East Coast US to Europe -- sometimes far distant places like Riga (never been there) or Moscow (ditto) -- don't have my passport, don't even have my driver's license, am in my pajamas. Worrying about what I'll tell them when we land, wondering if I can borrow someone's sweater because I'll get cold. I know: duh!

It is time to leave for the airport and I am not packed yet.
This results in the obsession in waking life for packing days ahead.
Then there is the dream that I am packing and just stand there in front of the closet and try to decide what to pack, this can take most of the night. I always wake exhausted and wonder why my closet door is open

Why is it we all have nightmares about traveling? It's supposed to be relaxing!

I have the typical nightmare of going to the airport, only to discover I forgot to put on anything but my birthday suit. The only weird part is that no one seems to notice except me. I'm just mad that I'm inconvenienced about not having a place on me to stash my passport.

My good one is that I go to Italy, speak Italian, and find my dream home perfectly restored and very cheap. That's how I know I'm dreaming!

My recurring nightmare:
I'm packing for a trip at the last minute, and I can't find two matching shoes!

suzanne, I would love to know the meaning behind that dream!

Mine usually involve revisiting some location I really enjoyed.

Scarlett-

Hee hee...I shoe shop too before a trip! My boyfriend asks, "Why do women always shoe shop before a vacation?" My answer is, shoes take up the most room in your bag, so you don't want to bring too many pairs. BUT you want pairs that will go with all the clothes you are bringing....and certain shoes go with skirts, certain ones go with pants, etc. They must be comfortable because you're walking a lot, yet they must be "cool" because you like to look nice on vacation. Hence...the shoe obsession...

I hate the question "why do you need to pack 4 pair of black shoes?". Duh. As if.

You can learn so many things on this forum! I was just thinking that I needed some new shoes, but I haven't acted on it yet. I never thought about planning a trip- that's what I'm missing! Maybe I can dream about a fantastic destination tonight...

My husband and I travel at least once a year without our kids. It's always hard for me to leave them behind, and I always worry about a million things. It's gotten easier the more I do it, but it's never care-free.

I accompanied my husband on a "business" trip to Colorado, and while we were away, I had a nightmare that we arrived home from the airport to an empty house. My mom finally arrived and would not tell me where my kids were. Finally my dad came home and told me my one son had to have both legs amputated. (I never learned why). One of the first commercials I saw that morning was the Nike commercial showing that woman who can run races even though she has no legs. I don't believe my dreams ever predict things (although I've had de ju vu moments from dreams; nothing bad) but this just freaked me out. It's one dream I don't think I'll ever forget.

Hey, how's that to be a real downer to a thread that was up to this point pretty light-hearted?

Have a good weekend, all. k.

k, what a bummer I hope you start dreaming better dreams than that!!
Maybe you need to go shoe shopping right before a trip !
I have just come back from a shoe shopping frenzy and I must say I was totally successful!
Because we are going to Las Vegas Monday and I realized that while my shoes are perfectly acceptable for NYC, they lack something for Las Vegas, baby!
Suzanne! I got really comfortable shoes that are very cool and a pair of pointy toes tiny heeled shoes that have Some Like It Hot pictures all over them.
Such a departure from my black shoes, what has come over me~

Scarlett,
The Some Like it Hot shoes sound great! Description please! Colors, etc.
By the way, I have had a recurring dream since I was a teenager that I am actually soaring above Manhattan. I feel a breeze, my stomach has butterflies, and it's awesome!

karens, if it makes you feel any better, your dream was a classic separation anxiety dream.

Dreams rarely mean what you dream. An example, if you dream of pregnancy, it means a new begining of some sort. If you dream of death or someone dying, it means the end of something.

The amputation was very clearly the separation of your children from you as an amputation of legs is separating the legs from the body. The problem with your mother was clearly your anxiety about leaving the children.

Hope that makes you feel better!

Go Travel, that was great! I will remember that the next time I have a weird dream , do you know what shoes mean LOL~
Wendy, cream background, lot of reds and some blues and black print and a little yellow. Actually, Marilyn Monroes face is on my toe
BTW~I love flying dreams, when I am soaring over the land, used to dream about my childhood home, flying over the fields and trees..such a wonderful feeling.

To all the "shoe ladies", suzanne, Scarlett, et al--I remember shoe shopping the day of a trip once! Was leaving for England that evening and went shopping in the morning. Found a pair of chunky heeled black ankle boots--took them on the trip and have never had such comfortable shoes outside of athletic shoes! That was 7 years ago and they are still mainstays!
As for the original question from Cassandra--about dreams. I seem to have 2, one good and one bad. In the good one, I'm revisiting a Swiss town where I once lived and trying to get to a certain backerei to get a special sandwich they had. Sometimes I end up on a ski slope! In the bad one, I'm trying to make a flight to London and can never figure out how to get to the gate--seems to be lots of tunnels and endless escalators! I don't think I ever make the plane!

Omigod, Scarlett, there was a time when I would have KILLED for shoes like your "Some Like it Hot" ones. Nowadays the first thing I need to know is whether my orthotics will fit into them. My whimsical shoe days are probably over ( >sob< ) but I can still buy weird earrings.
