Football games
Hi everyone,
I'm traveling around the southern states of the USA - from NM to FL throughout November and December and I'd really like to catch a football game while we are here.
Can anyone recommend the best place to see one?
And also, should we see a pro game, or college or high school? Which is the most exciting?
Thanks

I got tickets for a Red sox game recently at stubhub.com and they also have tickets for football games, some college and some pros. You could check some of the locations of games for the times you would be in an area. Otherwise, go to a high school game for some local color.

The best college games would be to watch 2 ranked teams.
Pro, College, and High School games are all very very different and much different atmostpheres at each.
Some high school games have intense rivalries that are just awesome.
You will not spend hardly any money at a High School game and can get into one virtually anywhere.
Expect to pay big dollars for College or Pro if the game is any good at all.

Go see an SEC college game! University of South Carolina games are intense...especially versus another SEC team. The game that stands out, and that wouldn't be sold out would be the Florida at USC game in mid November. If you'll be near Columbia, SC, I would definitely consider it.

For pro, see the Saints or the Cowboys - the Saints for the fans' passion, the Cows for the stadium.
For college, see just about any SEC game as long as it's intraconference. Every SEC game is a border war or intrastate hatefest. But I'd really want to stick to the best teams: Florida, So. Carolina, Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Arkansas.
Or see one of these: (1) major intrastate non-SEC rivalries: So Carolina/Clemson, Florida-Florida State, Georgia-Georgia Tech or Big 12 rivalries like Oklahoma/Ok State, Texas A&M/Texas; (2) the Big 12 or SEC title games - just prepare to drop serious money.
Good luck on figuring out which high school teams to watch.

Have to agree about SEC college football game. I would recommend UF in Gainesville to watch the Gators with 90,000 screaming fans decked out in Orange and Blue (shameless Gator plug). The excitement factor in one of these games is really hard to beat.
correction, it should read "Go see the TN vols lose".

I agree about seeing the Saints or an SEC college game. I believe LSU is now #1, so tickets might be harder to get/more expensive.....but well worth it for entertainment value.
But, if you're in Texas on a Friday or Saturday night - there is nothing like Texas high school football! Altho, with your schedule, the games will probably be limited to playoff games - so harder to find/get tickets.

Not high school unless you're in Texas.
First of all, college football season ends at the end of November except for conference championships (really hard to get tickets) and bowl games (can be easy, can be hard, depending on the bowl; these don't happen till between Christmas and New Year's, generally). So if you go with college, it'll probably be November.
SEC football, as others have mentioned, is unlike any other conference or pro football. Just about any SEC team except Vanderbilt (maybe Kentucky) is going to have a stadium full of passionate fans. The most intense game you could get tickets for this year is LSU at Alabama (11/5). You'll likely pay a lot for those, but it should be a GREAT game.
Tennessee (much as I hate to say it, as a native Knoxvillian) isn't having a stellar few years, though the game would still be fun (especially if we're winning!); however, scalping is legal in Tennessee, which means you could just arrive in Knoxville on game day and find tickets and it's perfectly legitimate. The home games in November should be fairly easy to scalp tickets to. If you're not ones to plan ahead much, that might be attractive.

What the SEC fans aren't telling you is that all their little quaint stadiums just don't quite stack up to the real stadiums up north - Like those @ Ohio State, Penn State or Michigan. (Tennessee being the exception).
For the best high school games, you'll want to visit Texas, almost anywhere.
If you are in the South, I would suggest Clemson (for a college game).
College IS the way to go...

The regular season for high school football in Texas ends November 5.
Playoff games will be held Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from November 10 - December 10. State championship games are December 10-17.
Larger cities are likely to have playoff games, as they have more than one high school. You will have to search to see if there is a playoff game in an area you will be visiting, and of course the schedules will be determined week-by-week depending on who advances.
