Folly, Surfside, Carolina or Wrightsville Beach?

Hello,

I'm looking for some advice for an April break destination. Last year we went to Folly Beach, SC and LOVED it. We are new to surfing but loved that we could do that there, plus the small feel and convenience of walking to everything. Our kids break is always the 3rd week of April and most of the time it doesn't fall over Easter. This year our break starts with Easter, so I'm finding Folly much more booked up. So we are looking at some possible alternative spots and hoping the Fodorites can offer some advice.

Our group is one couple, one woman (50), 3 kids (boys ages 15 and 12), one man (22), and one grandfather (82). So we'd be looking at 4br place. We'd prefer to be able to walk to the beach and to at least a few restaurants. Would rather not have to hop in the car unless going to the grocery store or sight-seeing. But would be willing to bike for other stuff. Surfing spot desired.

I was looking at possibly Surfside Beach, SC, or Carolina or Wrightsville Beach, NC. Wrightsville looks as booked up as Folly, but it's on the list for the surfing. Can anyone offer advice as to the feel of those towns?

Also, can anyone offer advice of how busy it really is in Folly over Easter? We may still opt to go back there, but I think we were a bit spoiled by the less crowded trip last year.

Thanks so much!

Surfing will be much better at Wrightsville or Carolina. You could look at Kure also (it's right there with Wrightsville). And maybe Emerald Isle. Those are better surfing places, further up the coast from Surfside/Litchfield, etc.

I always recommend Folly Beach. In fact, take a look at this house for rent: https://www.vrbo.com/1003600. It's a four bedroom, 2 full bath right on the beach. A little further from downtown Folly, but an easy bike ride into town. Also, staying here gets you a discount on surf lessons and equipment rental with Carolina Salt. And they’ll come to you for the lessons.

And to be clear, i was referring to Wrightsville, etc. over Surfside. Surfside is a part of the Grand Strand and it is known for it's very wide and non-sloping beaches--which does not lend itself to big waves.
Folly may be quite good, as the OP already knows.

Thanks, I'll look at the other options. Still seems like Folly might be the best fit.
