Fodors must think Michigan is a boring tourist state.

I recently purchased a Fodors USA travel book that has a chapter about every state's tourist attractions, but it only had 13 pages on Michigan. I then compared the number of pages that other less populated states received and I was surprised that even Alaska had more coverage.
I then thought that Michigan isn't really a tourist state, it's where people get down to business and produce most of the cars in this country!
Thank God for the hard working people of the great state of Michigan!

Congrats to the fine people of Michigan who make marginal cars.

Now, back to travel.

Who wants tourists coming here anyway?
We are surrounded by the Great Lakes, we are a boating state and we don't need tourists coming here in the summer and crowding us out.

Tourists are a mixed blessing, just ask those in NYC.

OK, Michigangirl, I'll make you a deal, we won't go to Michigan if you stay out of Florida!

Yep, we are the ones that get down to work and get those cars out. I work for one of the Big Three's and can attest to the fact that "we" Michiganders are VERY hard workers.

I know alot of people from my state visit yours in the winter, but you can blame that on winter and Disney.
Also, many cruise ships leave from FLA but I'm sure your state benefits greatly from the revenue.

It's funny how people take sides on things, like:
My house is better than your house
My street is better than your street
My neighborhood is better than yours
My city is better than yours
My state is better than yours
My country is better than yours

What's next? My planet is better than yours!!

I was just trying to get support from other Michiganders on what other tourist attractions this state has besides Detroit and Mackinaw Island.

A tourist attraction besides Detroit? Wow. Who considers Detroit a tourist attraction?

Detroit could've been a great tourist city if it wasn't for Coleman Young.

I don't think Fodors is alone in this belief. Probably not much interest in the Michigan Guidebook!

Maybe Fodor's doesn't have much to say about MI, but I know that starting just before Memorial Day weekend it'll be that much harder to get around town, get grocery shopping done, etc, because of the tourists. They come from every state and every province of Canada. Gotta love the tourists!

For those of you talking about Michigan, you've never been around our state. I agree about Detroit, but the rest of our state is wonderful! Ask all those people from Chicago Land that have places on Lake Michigan. If you don't want to come here, thats fine with me.
